    Wildlands Conservancy South Mountain Pre

    Wednesday: trekking in Emmaus. Took the Alpine St trail, Trout run trail, Uplands trail and skipped Wilderness trail. Met a few other hikers, one guy on a bike too, and many bird observations, including: Carolina Wren (Thryothorus ludovicianus), grey catbird (Dumetella carolinensis), tufted titmouse (Baeolophus bicolor), white breasted nuthatch (Sitta carolinensis), blue jay (Cianocitta cristata), belted kingfisher (Megaceryle alcyon), fish crow (Corvus ossifragus), American crow (Corvus brachyrhynchos), northern flicker (Colaptes auratus), downy woodpecker (Dryobates pubescens), pileated woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus), red-bellied woodpecker (Melanerpes carolinus), northern cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis), and lots of Canada geese (Branta canadensis)Read more

    Bethlehem PA - Show #1

    Back before things went crazy in the US, we had purchased tickets to see Alan Doyle in PA. Crazy as it has been with our southern neighbours we didn’t want to forfeit our tickets 😜
    We traveled to Bethlehem PA and took in the first concert on the this leg of the Welcome Home tour.

    Roots time

    Without rock and reggae, but still mighty fine. We take it easy, today's for grocery shopping, and settling in at grandma's. Trying out that perfect American lawn. Pretty lush, I have to say, and the wilderness is still close. Already seen a bunny, and later on deers will show up too. Birds are all sorts, different from the ones in Europe.Read more

    Gestern haben wir einfach bei bekannten verbracht. Mit deren Hund gespielt und waren Frühs noch in der Kirche.
    Die Kirche ist ganz anders wie in Deutschland. Sie ist viel Moderner und spannender. 🫣

    Day 4

    Tag 4: Home!

    Punkt 3:30 Uhr heute Morgen klingelte unser Wecker, also standen wir auf, machten uns fertig und fuhren dann mit einem Uber zum Flughafen.
    Dort frühstückten wir erst einmal und tranken einen Kaffee, um wach zu werden.😅
    Gegen 6:45 Uhr konnten wir dann in unseren Flieger steigen, der dann eine halbe Stunde später Kurs auf Newark, New Jersey nahm.
    Gegen 10:15 Uhr erreichten wir Newark und fuhren von dort dann nach Hause.
    Dort angekommen, räumte ich direkt meine Tasche aus, machte die Wäsche und duschte.
    Jetzt entspanne ich noch ein bisschen und gehe dann auch zeitnah ins Bett, da die letzten Tag doch recht ereignisreich und auch anstrengend waren.
    Es war eine wundervolle Reise und ich bin froh, dass Lizzie mit dabei war. Wir konnten viel lachen und hatten einen tollen Aufenthalt in den Disney-Parks.

    Day 12

    Tag 12: Home Sweet Home

    Heute war es nun Zeit für mich wieder zurück an die Ostküste zu meiner Gast-Familie zu fliegen.

    Nachdem ich mich von meiner kleinen Schwester verabschiedet hatte, traf ich mich mit einer Freundin in der Hotel-Lobby, da wir zusammen zum Flughafen fahren wollten.
    Der Morgen war aber recht stressig, da die Uber-App eine Störung hatte und wir erst nach knapp 45 Minuten eine Fahrt bestellen konnten.
    Was soll man dazu sagen: Bei jeder meiner Reisen geht irgendetwas schief, also war das ja eigentlich klar.😅

    Irgendwie ist dann aber doch alles gut gegangen und ich hatte sogar noch etwas Zeit bevor das Boarding begann.
    Pünktlich um 8:30 Uhr startete mein Flug dann von Los Angeles, Kalifornien nach Newark, New Jersey.

    Nach knapp 4h Flug landete ich in Newark, wo ich mir erstmal bei DunkinDonuts ein Sandwich und einen Muffin holte, da es im Flugzeug nur ein paar Salzbrezeln gab.

    Nach dem Essen ging es für mich dann mit dem New Jersey - Transit nach Trenton, wo mich meine Freundin Anna abholte und mich dann nach Hause fuhr.

    Ich bin sehr froh, dass ich diese Reise zusammen mit meiner Familie machen konnte und sie nach 8 Monaten endlich wieder sehen konnte.
    Ich bin dankbar für die Eindrücke und Erlebnisse und für die neuen Freunde, die ich währendessen gefunden habe.

    Jetzt bin ich wieder Zuhause und liege bereits im Bett. Ich freue mich sehr darauf meine Mädels morgen früh wieder zu sehen und zu umarmen.

    Morning & Sunday Service @Connies Church

    Aufgewacht zwischen 3 u. 4 Uhr 🥴 Die vielen Eichhörnchen und Chipmunks sind frech und witzig hier am Gelände. Dann gemeinsames Frühstücken mit Connie und den Schwestern hier (kein Foto). Heute waren zwei Taufen beim Gottesdienst in Connies Gemeinde in Cedar Crest. Im Anschluss war ein gemeinsames Essen "Fellowship time", wo wir einige Leute trafen, die damals mithalfen, unser Haus zu renovieren.Read more

    Day 9

    Final day in PA

    Beautiful morning, sitting on patio listening to the birds. This is my favorite part of the House.

    I am really going to miss my family. I hardly get to see them so just spending time with them is treasured. I got teary eyed when I had to say good bye to each of them, seems like some each day since Mon. Those of you who live driving distance from your family need to appreciate this and see them as much as you can.

    I will miss the fireflies, the lush lawns, different birds, and of course KC. He is a special kitty. Very sweet; always wants to be where people are.

    I will miss playing new disc golf courses. Really liked the ones we visited.

    I appreciate our bed and Oregon weather. Too humid for me here.
    I appreciate the freedom of having a car at my ready.
    I appreciate our water. Just used to the taste and I drink more of it (esp when i can add lemon).
    I appreciate our lap kitties (altough KC is a very quiet kitty, and I will miss that).
    I appreciate control of my own diet and exercise time.

    I will not appreciate having to go back to work. Yet, did appreciate the days I didn't have to think about it much.

    Day 9

    Looking back before we head home.

    I do like this picture showing where we have been in the local area.

    It has been a very nice trip. There are several things that I will miss about being here and of course several things that I will appreciate when we get back home.

    I'm going to miss Brenda's family. They have been super nice and fun. Lisa has mad awesome dinners each night. Steven was kind enough to take us to several disc golf courses and even let us win ;-) Liam was kind enough to graduate so we could come here in the first place! KC, though not a lap kitty, has kept us entertained and allow us to not miss our girls as much.

    I'm going to miss the Fireflies! So nice to see each night. Everyone here is of course used to seeing them, so they don't have much of an impact, but for us . . . they are truely magical!

    I'm going to miss the closed in patio. A fantastic way to enjoy the outdoors without the bugs. We can see / hear all kinds of birds and are protected enough from the elements to make it quite relaxing. There is even a ceiling fan for when things get a touch too warm.

    I will appreciate our weather more :-) Sure, it gets toasty at times in Oregon, but it's not nearly as humid, so you don't have that element tossed in trying to suck the life out of you when you're outdoors just walking around ;-)

    I will appreciate seeing our girls. I need some Zazzy lap time and I'm sure she is willing to help out.

    I will appreciate being able to buy something for the actual cost listed. "I'd like to buy this $10 disc."

    "Sure, that will be $11.60."

    Ahh yes, the sales tax . . .

    Most of all though, I will appreciate our bed!!! Though faint, I can hear it calling already and it is ready to welcome us home and give us some awesome sleep that we crave.

    Quite the nice vacation though, and I do hope that it takes us less than 7 years to get back out here.    Read more
