I stayed with my friends Michael and Daniela in their cozy characterful house near a lovely patch of woods. Every morning, I got to enjoy the birdsong and even downloaded the Merlin Bird ID app to figure out which birds were singing. An interesting way to start the day. Daniela and Michael are passionate about cooking and treated me to delicious meals, always with a focus on healthy, wholesome ingredients. Thank you for spoiling me!

Their rescue dog, Baxter, took a little time to warm up to me, but eventually, we became like room-mates. The two of us even went on a few lovely strolls along the nearby river.

Larchmond is a beautiful waterfront village in Westchester County. It’s full of history, has a lively downtown, and plenty of scenic parks. The classic white clapboard houses give the town a timeless charm, making it feel both welcoming and elegant. It’s the perfect mix of peaceful and vibrant.Read more

We drove through Greenwich, Connecticut. It was originally settled in 1640 and was named after Greenwich in England. It’s home to many billionaires and while it may not rank as the absolute wealthiest town in the U.S., it is **one of the most affluent communities**, with a significant number of billionaires residing there.

The grand estates were breathtaking and because there’s no or little fencing, they are visible from the road — Greenwich is truly magnificent and a highlight. Interesting article about Greenwich’s history:

Great day away from the metropolis! Good day to give the bronchioles a rest. We have walked 16847 steps so far today, temp 27c and fortunately over overcast.
First up, Grand Central Station to catch our train, then to Rockridge road where David spent 5 teen years when his father Neil worked for THC NZ trying to attract tourists to NZ .(Be careful what you wish for) !
Larchmont is fairly fabulous! We had lunch at a Spanish establishment, strangely called Bradley’s! We tried to encourage David & Euan to use their Duo Lingo Spanish with minimal success🤣. After listening to this practice for at least a couple of years. I think we need them to shape up before we get to Spain! (said by the person who flunked out after about two weeks!)
Then to the nearby beach, and the walk back to the station. Cecily & I are pleased to have missed the train -a 30 min reprieve! A very beautiful location to live, (especially in spring), providing you have ‘made it big' in NYC Discussing dinner arrangements that don’t require me to walk any further😂😘 great day in a very beautiful hood.Read more

Traveler Oh those clematis! Sounds like the kind of trip you can only do when you have retired and have no time pressure. I’m lucky to do 1000 steps at present and using a stick when away from the house.

Traveler Hi Gill, yes, def. a retirement enterprise! When we chat with ‘young’ people they are very envious. I hope we don’t wreck their savings plans! Any news on the hip surgery? I have finished my prednisone today for the bronchitis so hopefully the energy level don’t crash & 🔥!

When we shipped the truck. It had to have just under 1/4 a tank, but more than red. So it needed filling up before we hit the road tomorrow and head out the city properly!
Going to take some getting used to the gallons. Also diesel is around $5/g where as petrol is $3.50/g and lots of fuel stops seem to charge less for cash than "credit"Read more

Traveler I think it is cheaper than the UK! I haven't been really paying attention or converting the gallons to litres or the dollars to pounds. but I shall try and do that one day, it does make calculating miles to gallons easier.

Am Sonntag war es soweit. Wir haben Megan zum Campus gebracht und uns verabschiedet 👋. Holgi hat ein paar Tränchen 😿 verdrückt, aber Megan war tapfer 💪 und hat das alles super gemanagt. Am Abend war sie mit den Zimmernachbarin und zwei, drei anderen Mädels noch im 7eleven im Ort, als wir auch dort waren. So haben wir noch einen kurzen Blick 👀 und Gruß erhascht, mehr war nicht drin, das war wohl zu peinlich😂.Read more

Traveler Das stimmt. Als wir da waren, ist noch ein anderes Elternpaar dort gewesen, die ihre Tochter gebracht haben. Die saßen noch draußen, nickten Holgi und mir ganz verständnisvoll zu. Ihnen war wohl auch schon mulmig.
