    Day 1

    June 11, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Off on an adventure! Today is the first day of a trip to the Outer Hebrides with Alec and Ewan.
We made our way through Glencoe and Kyle of Lochalsh, and are currently camped at midgie hell Sligachan on Skye.
I'm pretty sure Alec ate a few midgies for supper! I had loads up my nose and everything! 😄 😭. Absolute nightmare!
Tomorrow we head up to Uig and ferry over to North Uist for a couple nights there.

  • Day 2

    June 12, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

    Hebrides adventure day 2.
Today was an early start and a battle with clouds of midgies getting packed. Total nightmare! There went into everything and everywhere. No amount of smidge could save us 😄😭. Ya don't know midgies until you've experienced a still summer night on skye 😄
I saw a fog bow for the 2nd time and both have been on skye. Kinda cool.
We had a morning ferry over to North Uist where we're camping for a couple nights. I have to admit, I really enjoy ferries!
The sheep photo was when we stopped at a passing place and a nosey sheep suddenly appeared behind the wall looking at us 😄.
We spent the rest of the day at Baleshare on a magnificent beach. Ewan and Alec were off on a paddleboard while I fired the drone up.
It was so nice today! Like 25c, sunny and we were on a white beach with beautiful water. We could have easily been abroad.
Some of us are now sporting various shades of sun burn 😄. Ewan got an interesting array of midge bites, and I got another fricken tick! Big tick this time and it didn't want to come out. Enjoy the video of that failure! 😄

  • Day 3

    June 13, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

    Hebrides adventure day 3.
We had a pretty chilled out day. The weather was amazing, with 25c+ and no clouds. Could really have done with a breeze but we baked instead! Lol.
Are we even in scotland with all this heat? 😄 (jinx).
We drove down to the bottom of the
Uists and onto Eriskay to hang on a beach today. We spent the first half hour with the lads too scared to go into the freezing water lol. It's crazy how one beach yesterday can have mild water and the beach today baltic.
Stunning views on these canny islands though. Can't beat it on a sunny day! I fear the rise in tourism and incomers will change the Hebridean way. Hopefully not!

  • Day 4

    June 14, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

    Hebrides adventure day 4
We set of early today to catch the ferry up to Harris.
From here we went up the spectacular road from Leverburgh to Luskentyre. I can remember my first time riding up here on the bike.. Absolute grinning from ear to ear as it's such a stunning route. Amazing beach after amazing beach.
After some driving around we decided to camp out at Luskentyre beach. We got ourselves a great viewpoint, complete with that piper who randomly started playing near by lol.
The sun has been getting the better of us, and we're a bit tired today.... Making me feel like an auld wifie! It really takes it out of ya 😄
Currently sporting a shade of lobster 😄
We spent the sunset rescuing starfish. I'll show those photos another time as they're on my dslr. Pretty amazing to see hundreds of them, both a sand sifter type and the traditional shaped ones.
    Another brilliant day.

  • Day 5

    June 15, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

    Hebrides adventure day 5
This was our 2nd day on Harris and Lewis, and we left Luskentyre to head north up to Stornoway. While Alec replaced a shoe malfunction we endeavoured to avoid the sun and find a cold can of juice. Turns out, cold cans of juice aren't that common up here 😄. Don't think they're used to this much heat, so the demand for icy drinks is typically low lol. This sunny spell is far different from last year where they had nothing but cloud all summer 😮.
Once we finished buying bits and bobs in Stornoway, we headed west to Callanish stones for a quick visit. Then we were onwards to my favourite area on the islands... Uig. I blooming love this place. Huge mountain, amazing roads, and stunning beaches. We set up camp at my usual spot in Ardroil and ended the night with a sunset, beach walk then a wee firepit.
    Absolute bliss!
    Once again, another fantastic day.

  • Day 6

    June 16, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ 🌙 14 °C

    Hebrides adventure day 6
Today we had a full day to explore Uig on Lewis and enjoy Ardroil beach.
We ventured down the wee coastal road to a lovely wee beach at Breanais where we had lunch and got even more sunburnt 😄. Then it was a stop to the Mangersta Sea Stacks, which were pretty impressive. After that went around the Bhaltos / Kneep circular route which passes the amazing Cliff Beach and Reef Beach.
I absolutely adore this area! There's so many amazing beaches surrounded in spectacular mountains.
After the wee trip adventure we grabbed some supplies and headed back to the tents where Alec and Ewan went for a swim. I say swim, it was more walk... And walk.... And walk. This is one seriously shallow bay! They must have been a good 150m - 200m before they could swim properly 😄. The day ended with a bbq and some excellent burgers & sausages.
My hands swollen now because it's that burnt. Probably because my sweaty hands have been gloveless for a day on the bike 😮. Do I even mention I haven't been wearing my bike trousers? 😄. Other bikers will hang me for it, but my god it's a sweaty affair right now.
We just aren't getting a break from the sun and heat. It's a bit crazy!
Apart from the constant heat tiring us out. It's been another brilliant day.

  • Day 7

    June 17, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ 🌙 15 °C

    Hebrides adventure day 7
Today we left Ardroil beach and headed up to Callanish Stones to stay in pods that sit nearby. We settled in then headed out for a wee drive up the North West to see Dalmore beach. I really love this beach. There are no islands holding the ocean back and the waves are usually bigger here. After a dose of ocean therapy, we headed to Mollands which says it's the smallest chip shop in scotland for a fish supper. It was pretty darn good!
On the return trip we went to a Broch for a nosey, followed by a race back to the car before the thunder caught us! The skies filled with drama and we only just made it before the heavens opened and flashes began. It's at this point I remembered all my motorbike gear was still sitting on the bike getting soaked back at the pods 😄. Ya win some, ya lose some.
Later on we walked to the stones for sunset, and it was busy. Some Americans predictably decided to stand in the middle of the stones waiting for sunset, ignoring everyone wanting a photo from back a bit 😄.
There was also 4 hippy or similar type people there for next week's solstice. That was a bit weird! It all went odd after sunset 😄. We made a speedy exit!
Another great day though but we're all getting tired now.
Hopefully the pods offer us a better (and cooler) sleep.

  • Day 8

    June 18, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

    Hebrides adventure day 8
Home time. We set off for Stornoway to catch our 3pm ferry.
It was a pretty smooth ferry journey and we managed to see a pod of dolphins on the way! My mobile footage of them is pretty iffy though lol.
Once back on the mainland, we set off on the conga line out of Ullapool.
20 miles down the road my bike had other ideas. It suddenly started revving and lost power. I dropped and gears and tried things... Nothing. I had enough momentum to get into a car park then a quick call to dad brought to my attention that the bike has no chain. Blooming thing broke and came off! I had a mile walk to find my chain then a pester getting rac.
The man who collected me was brilliant though and I eventually ended up in Muir of Ord in a hotel while we left my bike at a garage for the morning.
11pm before I could settle down.
    Total drama.
The boys didn't even spot I'd pulled over and had messaged them with a problem for over 40 minutes lol. They were going to turn around but there was no point, nothing they could do.
So now it's day 9 and I'm sat in a cafe eating breakfast while a new chain and sprocket is being fitted to the bike.
    I'll get home eventually.
