  • Bergen, Norway

    4. august 2021, Norge ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

bergen, historically bjørgvin, is a city on the west coast of norway. as of 2021, its population is roughly 285 900 and it is the second-largest city in norway. the city centre and northern neighbourhoods are on byfjorden, "the city fjord", and the city is surrounded by mountains. bergen is known as the "city of seven mountains". this is the reason why it rains so much here - the water condenses and the clouds hang in front of the mountains. you can take a small mountain train called "fløibanen" and go up the hill to get an overview over the whole area - it's an touristic attraction but worth it.
i like ❤️ bergen - in short: it is a calm, creative port city with lots of colorful houses. and fortunately i visited it in best weather conditions 😍.

  • Fløibanen, Bergen, Norway

    4. august 2021, Norge ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

In seven minutes from the center to the mountains? and if! the fløibanen is a cable car that leads to the summit of the fløyen (320 m). bergens major mountain not only offers a fantastic view of the city and the fjords and the perhaps the best place to enjoy the sunset, but also restaurants, souvenir shops, an adventure playground and countless outdoor opportunities. the fløibanen are a common public transport for bergens inhabitants. the line is 844 m long, covers a height difference of 302 m, and carries over one million passengers a year.Læs mere

  • Vosso, Norway

    5. august 2021, Norge ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

    mirror lakes all over!!!
the river vosso connects some lakes, which are really great "mirror lakes" 🤪. due to the mountains ⛰️ around these lakes the air is very calm from time to time - then the lakes lay flat as a mirror 🪞. i love ❤️ it...
so although you might be a bit spoiles by all those fjords 😉, driving along the vosso is worth it. the vosso starts at tvildemoen, vossevangen, where the two rivers strandaelvi and raundalselvi meet. it continues through the lake vangsvatnet and evangervatnet before ending in the bolstadfjord at bolstadøyri. between evangervatnet and the bolstadfjorden the river is also called bolstadelvi.
    so: give it a chance!

  • Stalheim Hotel, Vossestrand, Norway

    5. august 2021, Norge ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

what a view from the lounge & balcony... and inside it seems like time stood still...
the stalheim hotel is located 36 km east of voss and was first opened on 15 May 1885 with 10 single rooms. it burned down in 1900 and was rebuilt, a new fire in 1902 destroyed it once more. in 1906-07 the meinhardts hotel in voss was demolished and moved to stalheim, as the third hotel on the site. some years later, the entire hotel was moved 37 m towards the abyss and expanded with a large new wing.
during wwII in 1943, the german organization lebensborn established the stalheim orphanage at the stalheim tourist hotel with one hundred child places. in 1959, the hotel burned down for the third time. this time, 23 people died in the explosive fire, better known as the stalheim fire. the current hotel was built in 1960, expanded in 1966, and now has 124 rooms and space for 218 guests.
walking around the hotel felt like time-traveling 😍

  • Stalheimskleiva Vegen, Norway

    5. august 2021, Norge ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

the stalheimskleiva is a spectacular 1.5 km long road that meanders down the steep mountain from the hotel stalheim with 13 hairpin bends.
it offers a fantastic view of the nærøydalen valley, which was (together with the Nærøyfjord) added to the UNESCO world heritage list in 2004. at the moment the road is closed because a sepentine broke off and is being repaired. so you have to walk - although it is also forbidden for pedestrians, it is possible with a little bit of climbing... . when it was still open to traffic, it was a one-way street that could only be traveled from top to bottom. stahlheimskleiva is one of the steepest roads in northern europe and has a gradient of 20%. on the way you have great views of the 126 meter high stalheim and the 142 meter high sivle waterfalls.Læs mere

  • Future of the Fjords, Undredal, Norway

    6. august 2021, Norge ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

today i was sittig at the aurlandsfjord and suddenly a catamaran approached - it was *really* weird because it made NO noise. it was the "future of the fjords", a new 40m long and 15m wide, all-electric sightseeing catamaran built by brødrene aa for norwegian marine transportation company. it can accommodate up to 400 tourists and became operational in may 2018. the vessel was built using lightweight carbon-fibre composite materials to reduce energy consumption, as well as the power and battery capacities. the hull and superstructures feature lightweight carbon sandwich laminates, resulting in approximately 50% weight reduction. the catamaran design also reduces waves and washes on the exposed shores of the narrow fjords.
the catamaran vessel is powered by two electric motors driving propellers through two gearboxes. each electric motor is able to generate a power output of 450kW at 1,180rpm. the compact propeller has a diameter of 1,475mm, while the diameter of the propeller shaft is approximately 100mm. The propulsion system reduces noise and vibrations, NOx and CO₂ emissions while improving fuel efficiency. the advanced charging station is capable of charging the batteries with approximately 800kWh of power during the 20-minute docking period. the propulsion system enables the vessel to sail at a cruise speed of 16k.

  • Undredal, Norway

    6. august 2021, Norge ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

undredal is a small village located at the aurlandsfjorden which is a branch off the massive sognefjorden in norway's "fjord-country." it's a veeeery cozy location ❤️ - you can hike along the fjord, sit at the fjord and watch the porpoises 🐬 or enjoy some goat cheese 🐐🧀 in the "kafe ost" at the "undredal brygge". well you can also take a "bath" in the 🐐 goats as you can see in the footage 🤪.
with a population of 100 people and 500 goats, undredal is famous for the brown goat cheese (geitost) that is still produced the traditional way. prior to 1988, undredal was only accessible by boat, but since then a road connection has been made by constructing two lengthy tunnels.

  • Aurlandsfjord & Sognefjorden, Norway

    6. august 2021, Norge ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

do you know slartibartfast? today we drove along one of the fjords designed by slartibartfast. slartibartfast is a designer of planets. his favourite part of the job is creating coastlines, the most notable of which are the fjords found on the coast of norway on planet earth for which he won an award. you can find slartibartfast's signature deep inside a glacier in ancient norway.
if i've lost you know 🤪, i have to explain... slartibartfast is a character in "the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy", a comedy/science fiction series created by douglas adams.
so on the pictures you can see slartibartfast's aurlandsfjord 😉, which is a 29-kilometre long fjord and a branch off of the main sognefjorden, norway's longest fjord. the fjord is deep and narrow, reaching a depth of about 962 metre and its width is generally less than 2 kilometres wide. about 11 kilometers south of the mouth of the fjord, the nærøyfjord branches off from it to the west. the village of flåm sits at the innermost part of the aurlandsfjord; other villages along the fjord are aurlandsvangen and undredal. most of the fjord is surrounded by up to 1,800-metre tall, steep mountains with little habitation along the fjord except for in a few small valleys.
