Phil, Brian & several other slightly mature people head off on a photographic expedition. Let there be much fun, many, many photos, a huge variety of wildlife & scenery ... but most importantly fun laughter & maybe a few good African wines & coffees.

    Homeward bound

    November 24, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

On board final Qantas flight for the trip. Brisbane here I come.

  • Day21

    Sydney sweet Sydney

    November 24, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

About 1/2 hr out from Sydney. It is funny to hear all the Aussie accents on the plane after pretty much only hearing German and African languages for 3 weeks.

    Transfer to domestic then home.

    Jo'burg then home

    November 24, 2019 in South Africa ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Sitting at Johannesburg airport. Have a bit of a wait so enjoying a bit of chill time with a cider ...

By the time we were ready to leave the clouds in the shot had turned into a reasonably significant storm. Thunder and lightning but thankfully a fairly smooth take off.

After the worst, most disorganised boarding I have ever seen, the flight got away about 30mins late. Oh well, thankfully only an 11.25hr flight.Read more

    The Fellowship separates ...

    November 23, 2019 in Zimbabwe ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

As Frodo, Sam and Gollum head to the gates of Mordor, Aragorn departs for the white city and his love etc etc.

There was some discussion over breakfast as to who was who but clearly Phil was Frodo, Steve as his trustworthy companion Samwise Gamgee which just left Vlad as Gollum.

I am now at the airport awaiting my BA flight to Jo’burg and nearly the end of the adventure.

Thank you Africa you have been amazing, wildlife, deserts, unbelievable roads, heat, cool, humidity, choirs, beautiful local people, many miles of singing our way from the 60’s to the 2000’s, more photographs than any of us can deal with, good company and finally many many laughs.

I am sure the other three guys will have an amazing time in Botswana and hope they see some big cats.

Storms rolled around Victoria Falls last night and heavy clouds building again today. With a bit of luck they may see the start of the rains and the awakening if this place as it bursts into life. Maybe Phil can, real this time, sing Toto’s Africa and bless the rains down in Africa.

    Dr Livingstone I presume?

    November 22, 2019 in Zimbabwe ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

Well Victoria Falls. We are here at the end of the dry season. Hot and humid but so worth being here. Must be totally awe inspiring in the wet season.

Two starkly different environments within meters of each other, very wet rainforest, complete with rain, in mist zone and dry, almost arid a few meters back.

Have included a couple of videos here but will add more on separate posts as only 2 videos per post.

    Windhoek international airport

    November 21, 2019 in Namibia ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

Not the largest international airport I have been to. But hey ... it’s Africa.

Now flying above the Namibian desert and soon to cross over Botswana en route to Zimbabwe and the mighty Victoria Falls. Am slightly concerned at just how mighty it will be as the place has been in the grip of drought for so long but as it’s fed by the Zambezi River we should be fine.

Update. Have now arrived in Victoria Falls. Quiet night and heading to the actual falls after breakfast. Hope it’s good. In the last photo you can see the mist from the falls in the distance.

    Windhoek and some farewells.

    November 21, 2019 in Namibia ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Well after a final dinner and breakfast together the first of the group have headed to the airport. Claus and Marcus are off to Cape Town for a few days and Cordelia is off home to bushfire embattled Australia. The cars have been returned and Vlad, Steve, Phil and I are packed (see photo... yes I did get it all in) and awaiting our transfer to the airport at 1.30.

    Next stop, Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

Sadly the adventure is starting to draw to a close and while I am very keen to get home to Lee, I will be sad to say farewell when I leave the other 3 in Zimbabwe to head home on Saturday.

It is however still Thursday and I am soo keen to see Vic Falls. So stay tuned. Hopefully I will get some interwebs with which to post.

    Lüderitz to Windhoek

    November 20, 2019 in Namibia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

800km drive today but thankfully all in good bitumen and 120km/h speed limits. Very flat barren country. Have passed through many km’s of totally flat country with not even a single small bush.
