After the Tower of London, I went wandering. Found some pretty cool things.

Change of Guard at the Jewel Tower
A Hummingbird's SojournThis is the White Tower, often the actual residence of the royal family back in the day. It was built by William I, the conqueror, in celebration of a victory over Normandy.
A Hummingbird's SojournChanging of the Guard at the Jewel Tower. They are an active regiment on ceremonial duty, many just returned from Afghanistan.
A Hummingbird's SojournThis old wall is part of the original Roman wall that went around London when the Romans established London a LONG time ago.
One of my most dreamed about places - Windsor Castle. I had to hop on an underground to catch an overground. Was about an hour long uneventful journey. Upon arrival, I made my way through the touristy strip mall trying to find my way to the Castle. To save time, I stopped at an info booth and the gentleman there jokingly said if I had come to scale the outer wall of Windsor, there would be none of that today due to the nasty, wet weather. Makes the walls too slick, he said, with a straight face. Oh, it made me laugh so hard! I assured him I had left my wall scaling gear back at my hotel so no worries. Then he said I was just in time, if I hurry, cuz the Castle was closing early today for an event. I knew I would cry if I missed getting in so I hurried on to the gate he pointed out to me. Luckily, I made it in time and was part of the last group of ppl they let in. Whew! That would have been just terrible if I couldn't do what I set out to do.
The State Apartments was pretty neat, opulent, and fascinating. I wasn't allowed to take pics, unfortunately. The place I will carry in my heart forever, though, was St. George's Chapel, where King Henry VIII and other such grand royalty is buried. The place just exuded history and old-ness. I could feel it and it moved me greatly. There was a band and choir practicing for the night's event, as well as play from the great organ, so I was able to hear beautiful music and song, the acoustics of the space in full use. I was doubly lucky, and especially blessed to be there in that sacred place.Leia mais
Arsenal was also pretty great. A much newer and bigger stadium than Chelsea.
A Hummingbird's SojournApparently, the interviews of the players and managers take place in these little cubbies with the sponsor's logos displayed behind them.
A Hummingbird's SojournThe amazingly designed Emirates Stadium. Arsen Wanger, who had been manager of Arsenal for like the past 20 years, had a big say in the design of the stadium. He wanted his players to have the best, as well as take care of the fans. The roof of the stadium is specially designed to let the most natural light in, drain the most water to be recycled abs put back on the grass, the angle and shape of the roof acts as a sounds amplifier for the cheers of the fans abs all the seats are upholstered.
I went to the Arsenal and Chelsea football stadiums today. These soccer teams play in the highest league in England, why some of the best players in the world. In the past couple of years, I have come to really enjoy watching this game - even Bella joins in watching with us every weekend. The players are true athletes and it takes true skill to play soccer well.
It was so cool to be standing in the locker rooms and players tunnels that great players have stood.
This set of pictures will be from the Stamford Bridge stadium at Chelsea.Leia mais
A Hummingbird's SojournPanoramic view of the actual stadium. Our tour guide said that only two more seasons playing in this stadium, then they'll go to Wimbledon Stadium for 3 years, while this one is being torn down and rebuilt. They will did 40 meters down and build from there as they cannot be taller than St. Paul Cathedral...it's a law!
A Hummingbird's SojournI learned while at Chelsea FC stadium that the size of the field in soccer is not regulated. Who knew!?
Flanerie Lifethe laced glass and colors are emotionally moving. artisans giving their efforts to the church and people. arent we truly blesses looking at this? thank you for sharing. portals.
A Hummingbird's SojournYes, that's exactly it. Photograph wasn't allowed inside the church itself, but there was plenty of evidence on the outside of true works of art in the windows and architecture itself.
Flanerie Lifebreathtaking. i can almost see a wall display of three or four great Britain & French cathedral "rosette" windows enlarged to 8x10 and matted with teal or pink matting board. you are an artist.
A Hummingbird's SojournThis was so cool! There were many artists, sitting on little canvas seats provided by the museum, who were sketching. Ppl were walking all around them, even standing over their shoulder watching, but the were so absorbed in their work they scarcely noticed.
A Hummingbird's SojournAhhh, Van Gogh....This painting was done while he was at a mental institution.
Gabrielle Sutherland
such a grim view with the Tower in the background. Brrr...all that history!
