  • Fleurs Place

    12. Februar 2020 in Neuseeland ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

The famed Fleurs Place in Moeraki. We had actually never heard of it before this morning when the NZ/Swede couple advised us it is a great meal. We called to book in and were given a table as long as we could show up by 5 and be gone by 6:20. It was the best seafood of my life. Spaghetti a la vongole was filled with huge clams, almost the size of mussels, in shells still. Jason's fish was so good even I liked it. Florence even ate some of her spaghetti.Weiterlesen

    12. Februar 2020 in Neuseeland ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

We were sent here by the holiday park for the possibility of seeing yellow eyed penguins. We only had an hour until they closed up the reserve so we rushed over and had a little evening hike. We did not see penguins but were just feet away from seals and I think we saw more shags.Weiterlesen

  • Hampden Beach

    13. Februar 2020 in Neuseeland ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Morning coffee and picnic on the beach and playground just behind the holiday park. In theory we could walk from this beach to the Moeraki Boulders but because the tides were so high it was prohibited during our visit.
Also, birds ate Florence's apple and that was devastating.

  • The Laboratory

    13. Februar 2020 in Neuseeland ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Still unable to make the rest of the drive with a sick of travelling Florence and facing rush hour traffic into the city we stopped at this really neat brewery/restaurant. Food was good, Florence's chips and aioli were excellent actually, and beers were mostly wonderful. One used a super special hop from NZ (Nelson Sauvin) and I thought it was disgusting but Jason liked it.Weiterlesen

  • Christchurch Airbnb

    13. Februar 2020 in Neuseeland ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

This was the most wonderful find. A sweet, private sleep out with tons of space, tons of light and windows and a beautiful backyard and spa. John and Marianne were exceedingly kind and welcoming and let ourselves get reoriented and repacked and rid ourselves of tons of recycling. We ordered in food, and spent most of our time in Christchurch doing logistical things like mailing postcards, tuning up the van, repacking, purchasing mileage etc. Florence was exhausted and spent a lot of time lying down or watching Dora the Explorer. After she went to sleep Jason and I had the chance to hang out in the hot tub having our last NZ beers and chatting about the trip.Weiterlesen

  • Flight to Melbourne

    15. Februar 2020 in Neuseeland ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

    First flight of the day.
Up at 3:10 a.m. on Feb 15. In the taxi by 3:40, airport by 3:59.
It took us nearly an hour just to check in, Air New Zealand has automated the whole process to the point that it is nearly impossible to get help, and nearly everyone seems to need help for international flights.
Once checked in, through customs and onto our airplane Florence fell asleep really quickly. I thought she would sleep through me going to the washroom but she did not.
Overall she did really well and we all survived and no one on the plane hated us.
