    Arriving in Malakka

    12. august 2019, Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

I took the plane from Jakarta to KL and immediately boarded a bus to Malakka which is about 2 1/2 hours south of KL. I had booked a trailer in a very cute little hostel and headed out to get a first glimple of Malakka at night. The city is slightly overrun by tourists, mainly from China, and it was a little bit crowded and loud at times but I still enjoyed the atmosphere. It's a multicultural place with a lot of different food, street art and citizens from many different places.Les mer

  • Morning stroll through rainy Malakka

    13. august 2019, Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Since Malaysia lies in a different climate zone than most of Indonesia, the rainy season had already begun. However, it was also really hot, so the rain wasn't too bad. In the morning I went for a stroll around the colorful streets of the old town. I had some hipster breakfast and visited the first religious buildings. There are many mosques, chinese and Hindu temples and even churches. And there are just as many great food places in case you get hungry.Les mer

  • Little India

    13. august 2019, Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

The Indian influence is apparent in most places in Malaysia and most cities have an area with Indian shops and restaurants.

  • Strolling around "Old" Malakka

    13. august 2019, Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

The oldest part of the town has been beautifully restored. The three main cultures of Malysia (Indian, Chinese and Malay culture) are apparent in every street. You find old Chinese temples next to Malay mosques. And murials have also found their way into the city which attracts further tourists who like to have their photos taken in front of them.Les mer

  • Malakka to Tanah Rata

    14. august 2019, Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

The next day, I took a bus to KL and from there took another bus to Tanah Rata. Since that was a very long journey, I almost cancelled that part of my trip, but after Malakka I really felt like enjoying some scenic views away from the city and I definately didn't regret it. The trip was quite nice actually, and although it was raining in Tanah Rata I enjoyed my first evening there... especially the Indian food.Les mer

  • Tanah Rata to Ipoh

    16. august 2019, Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

The next morning I slept in, had delicious coffee in a local café while working a little bit before I boarded a bus to Ipoh. It felt a little strange to be back in the city but Ipoh is a cool and laid back place which I enjoyed for two days.Les mer

  • Ipoh - Early morning stroll

    17. august 2019, Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

After a good night's sleep, I went for a first stroll through the city's older areas (I wouldn't go so far as to call it "old town"). Ipoh is not very well-known, but if you give it a chance and some time, you'll discover beautiful little streets with lots of street art, great cafés and a variety of good restaurants.Les mer

  • Ipoh - Breakfast time

    17. august 2019, Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

After having strolled around for a little while, enjoying the street art and the architecture, I found an awesome little place specialized in breakfast, quiche and cake. You can choose your cereals from a large selection and top it with various nuts or other goodies. Delicious!Les mer

  • Visiting Kek Look Tong Cave

    17. august 2019, Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

After breakfast, I headed outside of the city to visit a few of the famous caves and cave temples in the area. The first one was Kek Look Tong Cave. Behind the cave there's a beautiful garden. From there I went to Ling Sen Tong Temple and its adjacent temples. Most buildings were quite new and very colourful but it was still worth the trip.Les mer

  • Sam Poh Tong Temple

    17. august 2019, Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 32 °C

The next temple I visited was Sam Poh Tong Temple, which is definitely the most beautiful one since the main temple can be found in an opening at the other end of the cave. There is also a pond with hundreds of small and large turtles which are fascinating to watch.Les mer

  • Perak Cave Temple

    17. august 2019, Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 33 °C

The last temple I visited was Perak Cave Temple which is mainly known for its wall paintings, some old, some new, which are actually very impressive. There are also some stairways up onto the mountains, but the view is not very spectacular - hence no photos.Les mer

  • Discovering a local festival

    17. august 2019, Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 33 °C

During my afternoon stroll, I happened to hear about a festival that was going to happen alongside the river. Even though I was really tired from all that sun I took in the afternoon, I went and I wasn't disappointed. There were many cute little stands selling local and hipster products, many different and interesting food options and I got to know two aspiring young artists who enchanted me with their music.Les mer

  • Ipoh - Another morning stroll

    18. august 2019, Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

The next morning, I went for another stroll, this time to a part of the city I hadn't seen before. But only after I'd enjoyed another great breakfast at the same place as the day before. Ipoh is very different from other Malayan cities as it has very large streets and thus seems almost American. The architecture, however, is very un-American with a mix of colonial and old chinese buildings.Les mer

  • Arriving on Penang

    18. august 2019, Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

In the afternoon, I took a bus to Butterworth and from there a taxi to my accomodation on Penang. It rained heavily when I arrived so I had to wait for some time until I was able to take a grab to a small food market where I had some fried noodles and some sugar cane juice.Les mer
