Again on the advice of the locals we lunched at the "Old mill", an old water mill converted into a restaurant situated on the river.

We eat excellent fish (I choose a river trout) at extremely low prices but above all surrounded by a beautiful waterfall.

Very friendly waiters, low prices, excellent coffee and amazing background for some pictures.Lue lisää

After lunch we continue the journey to the border with Croatia.

As we get closer to the part of Bosnia with a Croatian majority, more and more Croatian flags begin to appear.

Google Maps tells us that we crossed my times the internal border between the entities that make up Bosnia and Herzegovina (Serbian and Croatian/Bosnian Federations) whose borders are very strange and anything but linear.

The maority of the road is in good condition, except for two short parts of the trip near the city of Trebinje which are completely unpaved and where the road disappears and begins a mixture of gravel and stones on which we had to proceed slowly.Lue lisää

After 5 days outside the EU, we return to the European Union entering in Croatia.

Of all the borders this is certainly the most beautiful.
After days traveling among beautiful mountains, lakes and rivers we see the beautiful coast of the Balkans for the first time.

Once you have passed the Bosnia controlls a road begins that goes downhill, at the end of which (much further away than usual) there is the second Croatian checkpoint.

We are officially in Croatia!

Curiosity: this part of Croatia is separed by the rest of Croatia. Indeed the Neum Bosnia's only outlet to the sea, divides the Croatian territory in two parts.Lue lisää

The city center is truly beautiful, with its narrow streets and the large central street that divides the town in two.
The city is full of Northern European and British tourists, who come here to enjoy a weekend between sun and sea. Among the cities visited so far, it is certainly the most popular destination among Europeans.

The city attracts above all high-level tourism (we can consider it as the Taormina of Croatia), as demonstrated by the relatively elegantly dressed tourists and the quite high prices.

The city and the port are dominated by the fortress of San Lorenzo that has defended the city for centuries.

Dubrovnik has a very long history but it is famous in particular for the prosperous Maritime Republic of Ragusa.

In 1991 this city was also hit by Balkan war when Serbian/Montenegrin forces bombed the historic center causing enormous damages and then put the city under siege.

The city today develops climbing the mountains around the famous city center and the port. For this reason, to reach our apartment in the higher part of the city, we had to face a long and steep staircase.Lue lisää

From the port you can enjoy and amazing view of the mountain, the boats and the city of Dubrovnik.

This port has been the key to Dubrovnik's success and prosperity.

The Italian influence on the region is also evident in the local cuisine.

I had an excellent pasta with seafood, eaten in a restaurant in the city port with an incredible view of the sea and the mountains.

At night, after the sunset, the temperature drops a lot, but with a sweater it is really pleasant to walk aroud the city and also eat a very good italian style gelato!Lue lisää

Yet another frontier, the penultimate of this journey!

Unlike the others, where the waiting times were almost zero, at the Croatia/Montenegro border, maybe due to the weekend, the queue was very long and we waited about half an hour.

No, these are not the photos of a big lake. It is the Adriatic Sea that enters for around 20KM in some natural inlets offering an incredible landscape.

Walking through the historic center, a UNESCO heritage site.
The past under the rule of Venice has left many traces in the city's cuisine and architecture.

Curiously, the city has become a top destination for both wealthy Ukrainians and Russians fleeing the war.

Once we leave Kotor the road to Podgorica does not offer any particular attraction or natural beauty. The street simply pass through a series of villages and small towns.

Compared to the other squares visited in the other capitals of the Balkans, Podgorica's is smaller and more bare.

The only monument is an obelisk dedicated to the heroes of Montenegro.

The main attraction of the city is the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ.

Like the other Orthodox churches seen especially in Serbia, this one is also all gilded and full of images depicting the saints.

We crossed the last land border of the holiday, and returned to Albania where our journey began 8 days ago.

We do a stop for lunch in Lezhë and then we go directly to Tirana.
