  • Archibald Prize

    June 9, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

This morning we walked to the New South Wales Art Gallery to see the Archibald Prize. It was good to see and whilst we didn't think the winner was the winner, we loved that the artist was there, sitting on the floor, speaking to the crowd and answering the questions of a primary school boy! I loved the coffee refugee, a young, strong black woman, Sally McManus, and Laura Tingle better. Particularly impressive was the man with the red scarf - which was so realistic and detailed. We also enjoyed the Wynne Prize - and the winner was great. Coffee at the gallery was followed by a nice walk back to the hotel via the Peter Sheppard shoe shop - which was excellent but quite expensive. Lunch here and planning etc.Read more

  • Sydney by night continues to wow!

    June 9, 2022 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 4 °C

Tonight we booked a Spanish restaurant called BALCON. The walk was cold (again) but we got there early enough to benefit from happy hour and the Sangria was very good. The meal was delicious and good to have Spanish - jambon for Craig, lamb and Arroz dessert! Afterwards we chose to walk down to the Opera House - it is so crowded there - all the Sydney residents are coming in to see VIVID. We have really enjoyed being here.Read more

  • Train to Hornsby to see Di

    June 10, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

This morning we woke up early and took the train from Wynyard to Hornsby. We went there to meet and very old good friend called Di Jackson who we used to teach with, in Whyalla long ago. we had a lovely breakfast and enjoyed the morning immensely it was very special to see her again. After a rest back in the Rendezvous Hotel, we set out to see some of the more historical sections of The Rocks - the big dig. Then on down to the water to the Barangaroo area which has been developed. It is lovely by the water and the sun is really shining today. We saw the huge development around the new Crown Casino and there is still clearly more that is going to happen.Read more

  • Pony & Light sabres

    June 10, 2022 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 13 °C

This evening we went out nearby to the PONY restaurant which we have been to a couple of visits before. We hoped the Rocks Markets would be out but it was just food. We had SUCH a good meal - delicious mushroom pasta, salad, and spatchcock - everything was delicious. We had a lovely young, male waiter and he also recommended the Macadamia tart - also delicious. After dinner, we went for our last walk around the wharf to see Vivid stuff. It was SO crowded - concerning actually, but we actually communicated with Luke and ended up buying light sabres for the boys - they will love them but I hope they don't hit each other!!!Read more

  • Leaving for Wagga Wagga

    June 11, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 10 °C

This morning we packed and went out for another lovely patisserie Breakfast at the Renaissance Cafe near to our hotel. After that we left and had hassles and and ankle mishap in the car park when Craig drove into my shin but all good we are on the road on a sunny day. The drive was pleasant and quite pretty in parts and we stopped in a little village called Jugiong for a snack little rest. On to Wagga Wagga where we are staying for the evening and after some quick basic shopping we came down to have a look at the Murrumbidgee River area which is very pretty and looks a lot like very healthy Riverland area. Tonight we had dinner at Giuseppe's Italian restaurant. Cold night but tasty meal (saltimboco and lemon barramundi).Read more

  • Drive to Mildura - our last destination!

    June 12, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

It was so cold overnight in Wagga Wagga (many crows). We got up quite early and left for a long drive over the flat Hay Plain. We did see many cotton farms which we consider very wasteful of our precious water and they seemed to be very wealthy properties & businesses. Coffee at Hay which brought back some bad 'hot' memories but nowadays it looked much better. In the end, we had lunch in the car of fruit, dry biscuits, etc, and ultimately arrived in Mildura. Our Air Bnb at Walnut Court is absolutely gorgeous and Helen, the host, is lovely. Tonight we walked down to a restaurant called Mr. BunMi - a Vietnamese restaurant owned by local entrepreneur Sandy - and we had a very delicious meal. It was full of many Vietnamese people and locals but it was a very friendly restaurant and they welcomed us with a delicious, free pannacotta. Great night - good to walk back after this big meal and our home is lovely.Read more

  • Mildura on our last day!

    June 13, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

This morning we both slept in - my back was hurting and Craig isn't feeling Craig - BUT the RAT test is negative. So we took it easier this morning. Went for a drive around Mildura and had a coffee and a walk around the mall. Next, we drove to the Australian Botanical Gardens about 7 kms out of town. Not amazing but pretty good and the WOW Tree was over 2500 years old mallee - if we can believe it. Back home for a munchy lunch. This afternoon we went down for a look at the Mildura Lock and then for dinner we went to the Mildura Working Man's Club and dinner was okay! Quieter day today.Read more

  • On our way home to Adelaide

    June 14, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

This morning we got up reasonably early and set off for our drive back to Adelaide. It has been clear and sunny and still cold but we managed to see many pretty scenes through the Riverland. Overall it has been a wonderful holiday, another one to be remembered with Sydney as the highlight. But it was also wonderful to drive along that New South Wales coast again with my dear Craig.Read more
