  • Another All Day Trip

    29 november 2024, Japan ⋅ 🌬 55 °F

T38 Kongofukuji is located at the end of the Ashizuri Peninsula, similar to Hotsumisakiji on the Muroto Peninsula, and is possibly even more remote. It is a multi day walk to reach it, so I opted to take a local bus. This bus ride is nearly 2 hours long but the location is stunningly beautiful.

Kongofukuji is one of the most beautiful temples so far.

  • On to Matsuyama

    30 nov.–4 dec. 2024, Japan ⋅ ☁️ 50 °F

It took over 7 hours catching 4 separate trains. The worst stretch was the second and third trains which were connected at Wakai Station which was just a platform stop without restrooms. That was a four hour stretch on trains without restrooms. Luckily at one stop they took 10 minutes and there was some kind of bio-potty on the platform. When you are in the boonies, it takes a lot of time.Meer informatie

  • The Colors and the View

    1 december 2024, Japan ⋅ ☀️ 55 °F

After dropping my backpack off at Iwaso, I headed up to see the momiji. Between Iwaso and Momijidani Park there was an amazing display of momiji in all its colors.

I hiked up the Momijidani Course which took about an hour and wasn't too hard, but also lacked the starting colors seen below. I continued up the suddenly very crowded trail to the observatory with its incredible view. The huge number of tourists eating their lunch there made me decide to quickly head down the ropeway before the traffic jam really builds up.Meer informatie

  • Itsukushima Shrine

    2 december 2024, Japan ⋅ ⛅ 52 °F

I've made it a point to visit significant Shrines in my recent visits to Japan. Last trip I visited Meiji Shrine in Tokyo and picked up a goshuincho, or visit stamp book. Itsukushima Shrine is one of the Shrines I wanted to visit but when I arrived, there were ridiculously long lines of visitors. So I waited for the next morning before the boatloads of tourists would arrive so I could have a nice pleasant visit.Meer informatie
