Fort Myers Beach

We took a car into Fort Myers Beach. It has slowly started recovering from Hurricane Ian. The beach was very windy with seaweed and sand blowing around.

Near the beach was an outdoor bar with lively music. A street with small shops and a couple of restaurants were near by. We ended the day with a trip to MargaritavilleLeggi altro

Naples

We anchored near the downtown area and took the dinghy to the docks where we walked to 5th Ave. 5th was a long street of shops and restaurants. The beautiful buildings and greenery made for a lovely shopping experience.Leggi altro

Marco Island

Staying at the Esplanade we were greeted by a lovely plaza surrounded by boutique shops and restaurants. Nearby was Annie’s for ice cream and candy. In the evening, music as played while people drank at the outdoor bar and dined in the open air seating. It was a lovely festive time and a great final day with Mandy and Eric.Leggi altro

Dry Tortugas

This place was incredible! Amazing snorkeling near along and near Fort Jefferson. Goliath Grouper hung out under our boat. In the evening we had sharks and barracuda circling around while we tried fishing.

Key West

Two nights in the iconic Key West took us on a tour of famous saloons, key lime pie, and historic buildings.

We ventured to the mile marker 0 and the southern most point in the continental USA.

We stayed at the Bight Marina which was walking distance from a majority of the city making everything walkable.Leggi altro

Looe Key

We left Key West and passed some large fishing boats before we made it to Looe Key reef. Mooring balls were on the edge of the reef. Small fish seam around our boat and we swam out to the coral reef and saw hundreds of beautiful fishies. We even spotted a few sharksLeggi altro

Picnic Island

We anchored for the night near this island. A local in Key West told us about it. It’s charming and small with signs everywhere and a derelict houseboat next to it.

Bahia Honda State Park

We stayed at the state park marina which was walking distance to the beach and railroad. The beach had soft sand and a gentle slope into the water. It was clear. A manatee even showed up on the marina.Leggi altro

Marathon Safe Harbor

We stayed at the safe harbor in Marathon due to weather and waves. The marina had a lovely pool and was walking distance to the Castaway restaurant which served lion fish.

Robbies marina

Tarpon fish feeding at the marina. The fish are huge and will jump out to get the fish. The pelicans get a bit aggressive though. Great lunch on the dock as well.

Key Largo

Alice Town Bimni Island

Bimini is a very small island with an old ship wreck, conch shacks, and beautiful beaches. A bull shark hung out under the boats in the marina and tarpon visited in the evening.

Chubb Cay

We stayed at the private island and resort for a week to weather out the incoming storm. The area is lovely with a beautiful club house with good food and an amazing infinity pool with swim up bar. The kids enjoyed swimming up to get a beverage and then playing around.

Off the side of the pool is a lovely beach and a movie area with seats for Friday night movies.

We went on a diving trip one day when it wasn’t rough and the other few days we took the dinghy to explore turtle creek spotting numerous turtles.

Bull sharks do live in the marina and get excited when the fisherman bring in their catch.Leggi altro

Shroud

Grabbed a mooring ball at Shroud for the night and took the dinghy up the lazy river into the washing machine. I don’t think we timed it right as there wasn’t much of a current inside. Was still pretty and fun though.Leggi altro

The Aquarium

Near Cambridge Island in the Land and Sea Park is the natural Aquarium. We took the dinghies to a sandbar and swam around. There were so many colorful fish and coral.

We then went to the island to explore. The rocky cliffs were dotted with small plants and fossilized coral.

We stayed two nights but moved slightly due to wind. The first night was next to Johnny Depps Island while the second was a bit south of it.Leggi altro

Aquarium

We anchored and rafted one night by Johnny Depps island. It was a quick dinghy ride to the aquarium, a lovely spot to snorkel and see tons of fish. In that vicinity there’s a shallow submerged sandbar that was fun to swim around.

Second night we moved to be better protected and wandered the rocky beach of the nearby island. There was a lot of old coral and fossils.Leggi altro

Staniel Cay

We secured a mooring ball at the Staniel Cay Yacht Club. The water is clear blue where you can see nurse sharks and large sting rays swim around. Nearby is the Thunderball Grotto and swimming pigs. The island itself has a couple small grocery stores and restaurant.Leggi altro

Iguana Island

Just south of Staniel is an island full of iguanas. As we brought the dinghy to shore, the rock iguanas started to come out to see if we have food for them. I had a couple of carrots which they were eager to take.Leggi altro

Compass Cay

We anchored at Compass to visit Rachel’s Bath and Rocky Dundas. We hit the baths at low tide which wasn’t the right time, but it was still nice to see. Rocky Dundas was amazing but the waves were a bit strong. There was nice snorkeling outside the cave entrance.Leggi altro

Swimming with nurse sharks

We visited compass cay marina twice. This is home to the nurse sharks that are as friendly as dogs. It was great being able to hold and pet these creatures.

We had a long day traveling south and hit a shallow rocky patch. I stood on the bow keeping watch for rocks as we slowly made our way to the anchorage. We didn’t quite make it to our desired destination, but found a lovely spot to settle in for the night. A beautiful small beach was nearby so I dropped the kayak for a visit. George Town and Stocking Island

Chat n Chill is the place to be. Beach volleyball, tree house, rope swings, and sting rays. A regatta is happening so there are over 400 boats in the harbor and something fun happening each day. There is a treehouse the kids work on as well.

Across from stocking island is George Town with a grocery store and small shops. We found delicious jerk ribs.Leggi altro

Crab cay

We anchored in Crab Cay next to a small beach. The Cay has ruins of an old resort and a partially dug out canal. The canal is deep enough to jump into from the cliff walls. We spotted turtles and a sting ray in the canal.Leggi altro

Cape Eluthera

We stayed at a marina which offered bikes and a pool. The are had a bunch of nurse and bull sharks which were fun to watch. There were also grouper so Michael loved fishing. The marina resort had a lovely beach as well and a long trail to ride bikes.Leggi altro
