Today we left early to get to Kai Ping Culinary School. We were in our groups discussing who was reading what parts when introducing our dishes. I had to introduce Chinese New Year and Dong Po Rou (pork slow cooked in wine). In the afternoon we split up and were each accompanied by two students to visit Fujin Street (café street), my group joined up with another group, so there was six of us in total. There were lots of stores that sold new, ‘designer’ products such as an object that looks like and egg that can absorb smells, hydrophobic garden tiles, tumblers (glass) that is made of plastic, but looks like glass, and a plastic gun that shoots rubber bands. Afterwards we went milkshakes, lemon, banana and kiwi, and tomato and ginger, they were served in plastic bags. It seems this area is similar to those places in Melbourne where you get your drinks in jars, food on blocks of wood and plastic crates instead of chairs. Afterwards we went to a pancake/waffle restaurant. We drank tea, hot chocolate and ate French toast with bananas and ice-cream. After saying our goodbyes we took a bus up Maokong mountain, a place where Taipei people would go for a great night city view,to have dinner. We ate clam shell soup, noodles that has been seasoned by oil, boiled chicken, stewed tofu, steamed cod (fish), seaweed, bamboo shoots and a local green “guo mao” (which literally translates to ‘pass the cat’) and the other called mountain celery. Unfortunately we got back to the hotel very late, so our usual bubble milk tea store had already closed so we had to settle for 7/11 (convenience store) milk tea.
