    Tokyo airport

    March 13 in Japan ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

ANA operates its own shuttle bus to the international terminal for transfers, and you need the little voucher they give you for it, plus it's a distance away and down some stairs. I wonder why?! So they speshul?? I mean there's the other airport shuttle that's free anyway. Oh well.

Flight was so crowded! 3 4 3 aircraft and lots of salarymen traveling for work I think. We thought it was some mistake when all the 4 seats had the sides occupied on seat selection but they really were filled by single travelers. About an hour and no entertainment, also no food or drink service since short flight. ANA feels more drab than Korean Air in terms of stewardess uniforms. All turns out to feel rather no frills lol.

Connecting flight is in a few hours.

    Fukuoka Airport

    March 13 in Japan ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Goodbye, Fukuoka! It's been lots of great food, lots of shopping, lots of beautiful inari jinja. I'll fill in the missing previous days when we land at Haneda or when I have some free time.

Checked in at the airport with the kiosk, very high tech and quite well designed. But had to check in our luggage separately, not with kiosk since international flight. They also made us check in our hand carry luggage! Because it was too big. Thankfully no extra cost..Read more

Last day in fukuoka, take two

    March 13 in Japan ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Just relaxed on this extra day and chilled out around Hakata station before going to the airport. Saw a sign for duck sashimi. Had also seen one for chicken sashimi. What the hell man.

Our flight is in the evening so we took a shower before we checked out, left our luggage with the hotel, then took a final walk around Hakata. Bought some tea. Had sushi breakfast. Very satisfactory. Massive bowls of pipi miso soup. Delicious if not that cheap but average price of everything we've eaten on this trip. 750y for the service don and 1150y for the sushi set.Read more

    Flights are cancelled?! Sashimi dinner

    March 12 in Japan ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

Poor Danny was so tired from carrying bags today.

At about 4pm we were still browsing but I got a message and email saying our flight tomorrow early morning had been CANCELLED. Fukuoka to Tokyo (ANA) was still on but Tokyo to Seoul to Sydney (Korean Airlines) had been cancelled. Sat down somewhere with our shopping bags and Danny went to call Korean airlines on a payphone. Thankfully they picked up this time and were super helpful. We were booked on ANA from Tokyo to Sydney direct.

Finished the day off with sashimi dinner at an izakaya near our hotel. 500yen plate (videoed) was great value but the bigger one, not so much. Also table charge of 780yen per person.

    Shopping at Kawabata Shopping arcade

    March 12 in Japan ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

We went all the way from canal city (bought a hakama and some snacks) to Hakata Riverain (had nothing, all pricy. But it did have a bridal boutique which was cool to peek into and you could see the folded wedding kimono), walking through the Kawabata shopping arcade in the middle. We actually walked up and down it and couldn't find the bargain kimono I was looking for, but on the second pass we found it outside a men's wear shop! I suspect was owner's wife. 700y for kimono and obi. Was satisfied. :)Read more

    Kirby cafe

    March 12 in Japan ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

Last day in fukuoka (or is it?!) We had a booking at 11.30am for the Kirby cafe at canal city, which we spotted the last time we were there and that would open today. Turns out it used to be a temporary cafe but they're turning it permanent. Pricy but cute menu and cafe. Their gift was a large Fuji Apple... Bit weird lol. The parfait was massive. Even though pricy, we were so full and stayed the whole 85mins that we were supposed to spend.

Sorry darling, I miscalculated and thought it would be cold today. XD it wasn't and we both had our warmer jackets on lol.

    Tsunoshima bridge, motsunabe

    March 11 in Japan ⋅ ☀️ 10 °C

Unscheduled stop at Tsunoshima bridge. It was a bridge. XD overall we were brought to nice places but I missed the tour guide patter.

Motsunabe for dinner. Offal hotpot is apparently a local specialty but also sort of pricy. This one we got for 1090yen, single serve. But the option above that was 2090yen per person with unlimited chanpon noodles. Too pricy! That said it was good. I don't like offal but this was cleaned well and taste masked with spices. It wasn't enough so we had real chanpon afterwards. Medium size, 980yen. :) There was a cheaper version without the black fungus and egg for 780yen, I would probably go for that instead.Read more

    Motonosumi inari jinja

    March 11 in Japan ⋅ ☀️ 10 °C

Beautiful place. Pretty hard to get to unless you take a tour or drive yourself, which is why we went on this tour. Actual stretch of torii quite small, just spaced together tightly. View of sea through torii is pretty nice. That offering box is so hard to throw into! I actually threw backwards though that was just my crappy aim..Read more
