  • Final thoughts about South East Asia

    12. Mai 2025 in Thailand ⋅ 🌧 30 °C

Finally, to sum up my time in South East Asia. A summary of each country and the best photos from each.

A difficult task as they were all wonderful. All different and beautiful on their own rights. So close to each other yet so many differences, the culture, the environment, the weather, the traditions, daily life, history and the people.

The biggest thing of all I have noticed with Indochina, there is no road rage, no anger when driving at all! Is it because of the simpler way of life that people are kinder, Buddhism or is it that's is just a massive problem in the UK? And generally a sense of calm with everything that happens!

    Thailand islands
2 weeks spending time with my dear Lisa, a holiday was well needed! A relaxed, sunny way of life for a few weeks. Great food, great company and lots of laughter and tears.

    Cambodia
I found Cambodia a hot yet kind, caring and incredibly resilient country. Steeped in uncomfortable, unkind and cruel history but somehow, Cambodia, you are teaching the world a lesson in how to rebuild lives, cities and the country.
In Cambodia I have found a place where I could happily (and easily) retire: it won't happen but it's a nice dream to have.

    Viêt Nam
Again, a country with such a tough war history and a struggle throughout time for independence and reunification. I don't claim to understand communism but it feels like it worked for Viêt Nam. I plan to learn more about the political history of Viêt Nam but for now, happy in my ignorance, it has a special place in my heart.
From war tunnels, prisons, war museums to group exercise at 5.30am, so much to love and see. Viêt Nam, I will be back, I don't think I'll ever have the opportunity to do such a long time travelling but I will back to explore your country a bit more.

    North Thailand
Did you know? Thailand means land of freedom, they've never been colonised and that there are approximately 43 thousand temples!
Bangkok, very surprising cool expansive city, literally has everything and a lot of temples! Pricey in comparison with everywhere else in Indochina but worth every penny of the trip. From culture to party, it has everything.
Chiang Mai, took time to grow on me, not sure whether it was due to missing Dan and Tash or moving to a new place but I learnt to love the history and temples, 32 of them and of course the perfect location to spend time observing the glorious Elephants and seeing the famous temples of Chiang Rai.
Ayutthaya, stunning ruins and history with every turn in the city.

Living and working in a Thailand Village, an amazing humbling experience with the most amazing lady, Phi Nee. I've found a friend for life and she is a really inspiration to young woman around her. She is FIERCE!

I'm boring myself with this statement as I think I've said this after every country but I will be back to see you, Thailand, it'll most probably be under different circumstances and maybe a relaxing beautiful holiday but so grateful that I've had the opportunity to spend quality time exploring.

I've loved every single minute of my time in Indochina but for now I say good luck, lots of love and I'll be back..... My face hurt from all the smiling I have done over the last 3 months.
