TravelerThat’s about the average for the trip distance wise - elevation is the killer. Lots of steep hills everyday so far. They are as bad going down as up. Everything but my shoulders feel pretty good. Shoulders are pretty sore until the next day. I’m thinking all of the pained parts will cool off in a few more days. I have a few 18 mile days coming up.

TravelerWeather has been perfect for hiking. Overcast, cool, slight breeze. First three days it rained pretty hard - since then perfect. Chance of rain for the morning tomorrow. Only 13.5 miles tomorrow.

Santo Domingo de la Calzada is also famous for the so-called ‘miracle of the hanged innocent’, considered to be the most famous of the Middle Ages and the Camino de Santiago.

According to the legend, a German young man and his family were traveling as pilgrims to Santiago. On the way, they stopped in Santo Domingo de la Calzada for the night, where he rejected the advances of the inn keeper’s daughter. Upset with the rejection, the young woman hid a silver cup in the pilgrim’s bag, who would be later accused of theft and condemned to death.

On their return from Santiago de Compostela, his parents went back to Santo Domingo de la Calzada to give the final farewell to their son and found him still alive, thanks to the intervention of Saint Dominic who knew of the young man’s innocence.

Surprised by such a miracle, the parents went to the authorities to let them know. The Corregidor (sheriff) of Santo Domingo being skeptical replied that their son would be as alive as the roasted cockerel and hen he was going to eat that very moment. As he pronounced these words, the cockerel and hen instantly got up on the plate, their white feathers grew back and they started to sing.Read more

The hotel occupies a former 12th-century hospital near the cathedral, erected by St. Dominic to take in pilgrims traveling on the Way of St. James.

Nicer than a typical hotel and reasonable pricing.Read more

19 different Chapels here. Huge, grand, and rich with decoration. It is also a Basilica.

The video is shot next to the entrance where two articulated figures are - the Flycatcher and its companion the Martinillo which form part of a clock and are a few characteristic elements of the temple. The Flycatcher is a doll made in the 16th century and is characterized by its grotesque appearance, opening and closing its mouth to give the chimes of the hours.Read more
