Escaping winter

Left the colder temps of Alberta (and some snow) into Idaho and Washington. Stayed overnight in a USFA (forestry) campground we had all to ourselves. Best part was offseason rates = free. Idaho is still well into larch madness season 🌲 🍂. The fall colours were nice. We stopped in Sandpoint for a walk. Will be overnighting in Washington.En savoir plus

Olympic National Park

We drove to Olympic National park. Did some short hikes to Marymere and Sol Duc waterfalls amongst the giant cedars, hemlocks and douglas fir trees. The days are quite a bit shorter now. Supper at the camp is now after dark.En savoir plus

Oregon is my 48th state visited 🎉. (Still need Wyoming and South Dakota-not on this trip) Paul still has 8 more states 😆

Drove along the Northern California coast. California poppies and pampas grass on the hillsides. Went for a walk at Glass beach. Really nice area to explore and wander.

Left the coast

We had to make a plan B. We forgot it was a long weekend and that made for a busy camping weekend along the coast. We left not knowing where we were going to next. By 2pm we had made an online reservation inland and had a couple more hours to drive.
We also made the decision to skip the Bay Area as we both had been before. And the highway south of Big Sur is closed.
So one picture yesterday as we drove through the vineyards.

Just took a day to get groceries, gas and book some future campsites. Kings Canyon and Sequoia Nartional parks received snow overnight. Waiting to see if they lift the chains requirement to go back in tomorrow. Here are some views from our trailer. A nearly empty campground once again after the long weekend.En savoir plus

Drove through lemon and orange groves before heading up into the park. Saw some giant sequoias. Went for a couple walks and a hike to Little Baldy. Found some snow today. No chains needed but required to have in vehicle.En savoir plus

Road race and driving range

Had a rest day yesterday as I had planned to run a full marathon today. Unfortunately the full marathon was cancelled due to wintery conditions up the mountain. So the option to run the half marathon and take a race credit for another race was offered.
Nap time for me since I was up early and Paul will head to the golf range.

Badwater basin and Natural Bridge

Badwater basin is the lowest point in North America at 282 feet below sea level. A landscape of vast salt flats.
The natural bridge is a dramatic canyon to a natural bridge formation.
