What an amazing experience!!! Amazing views, fantastic weather and so proud of everyone for hiking to the summit. ❤️

  • St Beatus Caves

    August 9 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

WOW! 🤩 This place was absolutely EPIC!

Set into the cliffs high above beautiful Lake Thun, the St. Beatus Caves are a huge network of limestone caves filled with dramatic rock formations, underground waterfalls, rushing streams and enormous chambers.

Legend says that St. Beatus, a 6th-century monk, drove a fire-breathing dragon from the caves before making them his home 🐉 — and wandering through them, you can absolutely see where the legend came from!

Around 1 km of the cave system can be explored, following a brilliantly atmospheric path deeper and deeper into the mountain. Outside is almost as impressive, with waterfalls tumbling down the cliffside and incredible views across Lake Thun.

This was one of those places we weren't quite prepared for just how good it would be.

    100% worth a visit — we LOVED it! 🏔️🩵🇨🇭

  • Oeschinen Lake

    August 11 in Switzerland ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

🏔️💙 Oeschinen Lake – absolutely worth the climb!

Today we hiked up to the ridiculously beautiful Oeschinen Lake, tucked high in the Swiss Alps above Kandersteg. 🇨🇭 The colour of the water is almost unreal — bright turquoise, surrounded by huge mountains, waterfalls and snowy peaks. Definitely one of those places that looks like it shouldn’t actually exist!

After earning our way up, we found the perfect spot for a picnic before braving a swim in the very refreshing mountain water. 🥶😂 Absolutely freezing… but when in Switzerland!

Now suitably fed, swum and slightly tired, we just have one challenge remaining…

Convincing the kids that walking back down is a MUCH better idea than taking the gondola. 😂🥾

    Wish us luck… 😬

  • Grindelwald first

    Grindelwald First 🇨🇭☀️

Today was one of those days where the reality didn’t quite live up to the expectation!

We headed up to Grindelwald First and, to be fair, it’s a brilliant place. The activities are great fun, everything is beautifully kept and there’s a really lovely atmosphere up there surrounded by those incredible Swiss mountains. 🏔️

BUT… it just doesn’t scale for the number of people visiting. 😩

It was absolutely heaving, and in blistering 32°C heat, we ended up queuing for around TWO HOURS for each activity. 🥵 By the time you’ve stood baking in the sun for that long, even something really fun struggles to make up for it!

So, slightly mixed feelings about this one. We’re glad we went and the activities themselves were genuinely good, but it definitely wasn’t the carefree mountain adventure we’d imagined. More queue… melt… activity… repeat! 😂

Not every day of a road trip can be a favourite — and today definitely won’t be making the top of the Switzerland list! 🇨🇭
