So we headed in to Germany!!
Up to Meersburg and then we caught ferry over to Konstanz...
First day of everyone starting and finishing together.

into the woods

We spent a bit of time in woods today (off the lake path), but returned back to Rhine too... The water is much warmer and a more blue now!

Sheril and I headed back to Schaffhausen to meet Dave and then we headed to Jestetten where we are staying...
We did 71km today!

Hit the brakes

Much to my delight we rolled upon a random bike repair shop (that was open) right on the track... My back brakes were in much need of replacement... The lovely guy put my bike on straight away and changed the brakes, and did a quick tune. I was so so happy!! (Hence why it gets its own post...Sucks to not have brakes on some of the hills we have done)Read more

Day off the bikes to sleep in, do my washing (yey!) and visit St Blasien Dome and take a walk in the black forrest. Very relaxing day.

Flowers

One of the things I have enjoyed a lot so far are the flowers everywhere. Lots of houses have flower boxes with colourful hanging flowers, beautiful gardens, flowers on most drinking fountains and gardens on the sidewalk....

Bad Säckingen (Toi toi toi)

So again all six hit the road, we headed down the Rhine with first stop in Bad Säckingen which has a lovely covered bridge and a cool church which we popped inside and had a look-see before the service started.
It was near perfect timing because the bells started ringing about 15mins before service started (and just kept going). As we were leaving many people started flooding in to the square and to the church.
A lovely old lady (dressed in Sunday best with a hat) said to me "Toi toi toi" which is good luck (for our journey).Read more

We stopped just short of Rheinfelden for lunch. Lots of todays track was through forestry path along the river. Heaps of families out having BBQs and swimming in the water.

Ruins (and the dumps)

So we rode through some old Roman ruins (which had a concert on)... pretty cool

And then on to Basel...
So no one likes Basel
No one wants to stay in Basel
And especially... no one wants to ride through Basel....
As a group, we aren't great at big cities because they are confusing (and a bike path on a 80km/hr road... is still on a 80km/hr road)...
So I will call Basel the dumps mainly because we all got a bit exasperated trying to simply pass from one side of it to the other (just a tiny blemish on an otherwise lovely day)

A rainy start

So Illy and Dave opted for public transport options today...
For the rest of us...we spent first part of the day riding in a rainy drizzle alongside the canal (which runs parallel to the river). Lots of birdlife on the canal (and apparently some large rodents (rat/wombat)- which I didn't see)
Not being a fan of being wet and cold I didn't find the morning section that enjoyable but others in the group quite liked it

the sun will come out

So the Sun did come out in the arvo and we had a nice ride through forrest, with lunch stop in Fessenheim.
Our bikes (and us) were pretty mucky from the dirt track (and rain) in the morning

Nuef Briasch

So onwards to Nuef Briasch for the night...
We took a slight detour as we missed our turn off.
Met Ilona and David at the accommodation.

Strasbourg

Our biggest day of cycling yet... with a neat 76kms done and dusted

Spent the evening in beautiful Strasbourg.
