• Kylemore Abbey

    7. december 2023, Irland ⋅ 🌬 10 °C

One of the newest buildings we've visited, Kylemore was built in the 19th century by Mitchell Henry, a prominent Irish politician.

The Henrys were looked on quite fondly by the locals as they were known philanthropists and did a lot of good in the community. After their passing the castle was bought by a Duke and once it fell out of his hands, it was taken up by the Benedictian Monastic society who remain to this day.

The Abbey includes a sprawling walled Victorian garden and terrific views of the Irish countryside.

The drive to the Abbey was quite spectacular, as we passed dozens of waterfalls and small rivers and breathtaking lakes.
