  • Setting Out

    May 10 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 21 °C

After a well-delivered safety brief, we begin to set out on our own. Our first voyage lacks any actual sailing due to the quite windy conditions.

The first destination on our list is the deceptively named "Unsafe Passage" and through to Cid Harbour.Read more

  • Lunch at Nara Inlet

    May 11 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 24 °C

We've motored along to Nara Inlet to have some steak wrap lunches. So far we've still yet to sail due to the continuing winds, but the weather promises to let up in the next two days.

And, just before lunch, Megan, Alec and I had a quick murky swim.

With any luck, Greg will soon be able to drive out to join us.

  • Moored up at Butterfly Bay

    May 11–12 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 24 °C

The chef for tonight is Alec, who is preparing us some fish tacos. Notably these fish were bought, not caught, as Greg has not been able to come save us yet with the fishing gear.

The afternoon preceding the dinner involved attaching ourselves to a mooring in Butterfly Bay, then jumping off the boat to do a spot of snorkeling by the coral reef that surrounds the bay.

We spotted some sea cucumbers, a variety of fish, a big ass clam, other colourful clams and something I thought could've been a blue ring octopus.

  • The Arrival of the Greg

    May 12 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 24 °C

Mid morning of Monday, Greg has finally been able to rejoin the group, after a very rough ride over.

Earlier that morning we moved from Butterfly Bay to Maureen Cove to check out a very coral-y beach and move from our less than ideal moorings.Read more

  • Stirfry in Stonehaven

    May 12–13 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 24 °C

Anchored up in Stonehaven Bay, we will be enjoying a chicken stir fry after a spot of diving off the deck and swimming around the boat. The trip down was pretty smooth, and I even had the joy of driving the boat.

Likely heading over to the oceanside tomorrow to head down towards Whitehaven in the afternoon.

  • Back to Stonehaven

    May 13–14 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 25 °C

Rough seas on the northeast end of Hook Island have forced us to abandon our voyage down to Whitehaven Beach.
However on our way back to Stonehaven Bay, along the north coast of Hook Island, we had the opportunity to unfurl the headsail and sail for about 30 minutes, which was good fun.

We'll spend the rest of the afternoon fishing, swimming and other sea+based activities, and we'll head off early in the morning to try out Hook Passage.

  • Excursions from Tongue Bay

    May 14 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 24 °C

An early morning motor and sail down the west side of Hook Island, through Hook Passage and down the east side of Whitsunday Island brought us to moor in at Tongue Bay. From there we tendered and walked over to the tourist lookout and had our first peek at Whitehaven Bay.

We then sailed on over to anchor off Whitehaven Beach and had a swim and play on the sands.

Now we've come back to Tongue Bay and anchored in for the night, ready to enjoy some chicken and beef tacos.

  • Last Anchoring

    May 16–17 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

After a splendid trip around the Whitsundays, we have made our last anchorage at May Bay.

On the way over, we managed to achieve a top speed on the sails, hitting a massive 7 knots, or for those playing at home, 12 km/hr.

As the morning rolls in, we will clean up and make our way back to hand over the boat.
