  • 🌜 Mashipacong Shelter

    May 21, 2025 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 8 °C

New Jersey has been pretty fun so far but today was a colder (high 40’s) rainy day which meant we had to keep moving to feel warm… but carefully because the rocks were so slippery. Early start in the AM - on trail by 7;00 to avoid packing up camp in the rain.

We did take a long break at lunch to meet up with “Tall Bob” who is the father of one of Little Foot’s friends. He came in from Doylestown PA with treats and got us lunch at Mountain House Tavern.

Finished the hike at a shelter and after dinner we watched 20 minutes of Obama’s nature documentary series before dozing off.

  • 🌜 Camping near Pochuck Mountain Shelter

19,5 miles of wet hiking today. Major pit stop in Unionville NY for groceries, pizza, and then 5 miles of hiking into the darkening forest, attempting to get shelter space… but it was pretty full so we pitched tents nearby. Even though it was sloppy (mud! Mud! Mud!) and rainy all day it felt quick and even fun. There is a lot of rain forecasted for the next couple days so we’ll see how that goes 🤷 for the moment I’m feeling snug in my tent and sleeping bag.Read more

It was a rainy and wet day for most of today with a partial clearing in the afternoon showcasing a fantastic rainbow over Greenwood Lake. From up here we could actually see elements of the Manhattan skyline! It’s a busy weekend on trail and shelter space is competitive so we opted for camping tonight in an unofficial location. There is a raging creek nearby with a waterfall and a small clearing amid the rocks for our tents. The location puts us in a good spot for breakfast in town tomorrow morning.

Other noteworthy adventures from today: amazing bog environment walk on Pochuck boardwalk for almost 1 mile, super slippery mossy rocks everywhere (lookout!), long break at the tourist trap farm stand (so many good snacks), crossed the border from NJ to NY (again?), and I made the best trail dinner ever: a chili bread bowl! 17 miles of hiking in the rain (again). 😂

  • 🌜 Primitive Camping near mile 1380

    May 24, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Today was fun but sort of a low mileage adventure. Started out the day somewhat late, hitting trail about 10am… and then after a few miles descended into Greenwood Lake. Breakfast at Buzzed Café was great, hit up the CVS quickly and planned to get back on trail by 2, all according to plan, until….
Trickshot and Joey wanted to share a pint of Guinness on the way out of town. Murphy’s Bar was on the way so we popped in. It started out slow/normal but the bartender and local patrons were sending drinks our way for over 90 minutes. There was legitimately a storm to wait out but this was not an insignificant pit stop. 😂🫠🤷

We got back in trail at 4 and made it to an unofficial campsite near Trout Brook and tomorrow is another day (with rain in the forecast😱).

  • 🌜William Brien Memorial Shelter

    May 25, 2025 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 14 °C

We got an early start at 6:30 today with fun motivation: meeting friends on trail for a picnic lunch. The terrain was pretty challenging, At one point it was a vertical climb with our packs on! WOW! A super nice guy named Fred provided trail magic (baked goods, banana bread, brownies, vegan spice cake) and history lessons of the area as we crossed Rt 17.

  • Ruins in the woods

    May 27, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

We often arrive at ruins in the woods, perhaps an old farmhouse or a hunter cabin that may have burned down… this one had a plaque stating the history. It makes me wonder about all the other things we are seeing- I’m sure there is a lot of interesting history here that is far less apparent .Read more
