Flight from SFO went well, but of course, no sleep for me, so it was a long and tiring trip.
Brutally hot weather here, 98 degrees and I’m in need of yet another shower. See
Beautiful and lively city, spend the half day we had exploring and eating pastel de nata - yummy. Also had the local Bacalhau, delicious fish, for dinner at the Time Out food market.
Se Catedral is beautiful, and walking in the Baixa, Alfama and Bairro neighborhoods, spending time along the River made for a busy but fun afternoon.Read more

Day 2 in Lisbon

Good night sleep at My Story Hotel, Rossio. Perfect location for sightseeing.

5pm - so far walked 6 miles on crazy uneven cobblestones, visiting Igreja da Gracia and Castello de São Jorge along the way. 90+ F - drinking gallons of water.

After breakfast at the hotel had a nice very late lunch at Figu’s. Octopus salad for me, with a nice cold beer.

Happy Hour and snacks at the BAHR & Terrace- beautiful view and best place to watch the lights come on across the river.

Tomorrow we’ll take a 9am train to Porto - no sleeping in 😀.Read more

Train to Porto. Arriving at São Bento Train Station was crazy. It was absolutely packed with people, and walking tours. But we fought out way through the mob :-) and walked down to the river to our hotel, Guest House Douro. Lovely couple running the place.
Heat wave continues but we’ll get a break starting tomorrow.

All day Douro Valley Tour with wine/port tasting, lunch and river cruise.
Originally decided against this tour due to the time commitment and after all, we have Napa and Sonoma county for wine and this couldn’t be much different.
Wow, so glad we went. Absolutely breathtaking scenery, it was an amazing day, and nothing like our wine region.Read more

Be forewarned, the cobblestones are as bad as they say. After walking a few days in Lisbon and Porto I’m really starting to feel them.
Went to the beautiful Livraria Lello at 9am this morning. It’s smaller than expected but beautiful. Buying the expensive ticket to enter at 9 instead of 9:30 with everyone else, allowed us to actually see the famous staircase, later it was completely full with people. Entrance included a mini book - selected a beautiful little children’s fairytale book - one can never be too prepared- lol!
Of course visited the Cathedral and Bishop Palace, all a must do and very interesting.

Can’t wait to start the Camino tomorrow!!!Read more
