  • A month in paradise - Bali

    February 18, 2018 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Ahh, paradise. There is something very magical about Bali. It’s the combination of the culture, the people who exhibit an inner happiness and peace, the warm welcome you’re given everywhere, the stunning scenery and more. We are spending our first few days near Ubud (which has become a Mecca for searchers after “Eat, Pray, Love”). We are living in the middle of rice paddies where it is totally quiet. After a few days we’ll move to one of the beaches.Read more

  • Beyond luxury

One night back in Bangkok before flying to Bali on Saturday. The hotel upgraded our room. I have stayed at many great hotels but this is so far beyond I can’t believe it. They might have to evict us. Take a look at the videos. I’m not sure if it will all post.Read more

  • A spectacular day

    February 14, 2018 in Thailand ⋅ 🌙 26 °C

Today was spent on the water visiting 4 islands near Krabi. What a trip. The water was crystal clear, blue green. You could see colored fish swimming without using a mask. The sand was superfine. There were countless outcroppings of small, uninhabited islands. Breathtaking!Read more

  • A lesson learned

    February 12, 2018 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 32 °C

When you’re traveling in a foreign country and need a haircut, you should really make sure the barber understands English. Otherwise this is what will happen to you (see photo). The good news is a haircut isn’t permanent like a tattoo.Read more

  • Day 1 in Krabi

    February 6, 2018 in Thailand ⋅ 🌙 24 °C

Krabi is in Southern Thailand across from Phuket. We arrived this morning for 10 days of doing absolutely nothing (except for lazing in the beach, taking walks, reading and of course eating lots of delicious Thai food. The one problem: Dore has the flu. He got hit with it Sunday afternoon and gas spent the last 3 days in bed. A visit to the doctor here was helpful. He has some meds to ease symptoms (hopefully). This was definitely not part of the plan!Read more

  • A day at the dentist

    February 5, 2018 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Thailand is known as a medical vacation destination. People come for plastic surgery, medical procedures and dentistry. I needed a thorough cleaning and have been having pain with a tooth for a week. So off I went today to a Bangkok dental clinic. On entering it felt much more like a spa - very modern and comfortable. Everyone spoke English and all of the clients were tourists. I ended up having 2 X-rays, a dental cleaning (done by a dentist), a consult with a crown specialist and a periodontal appointment. The various exam rooms were spotlessly clean and the equipment was more modern than anything I’ve seen in the States. 4 hours later I was done. The total was approximately $ 137-. I estimate that in Portland it would have been at least $450- No too bad!Read more

  • Leaving Portland (for now)

    January 28, 2018 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 9 °C

It’s time to say “See you later Portland “. Tonight is our last night in our house. We shared some wine and snacks with friends this afternoon which only reinforced how special Portland is to me. The movers arrive first thing Monday morning to move everything to storage. Packing isn’t done yet but somehow everything always gets finished. Tuesday afternoon it’s off to Los Angeles for the night so we can catch an early morning flight to Singapore. First real stop is Thailand: 4 days in Bangkok (how many meals can I eat in 4 days???) then 10 days on the beach in Krabi. Photos and lists to follow.Read more
