Portage Wisconsin

Arrived by Amtrak Empire Builder train from Chicago. Hosts Rich and Joan Bailey visited me in Cape Town in March 2020 as Covid started. They were then living in Japan. Portage, WI where Joan was born, has population of 10k. Joan writes for Wisconsin Dairy Assoc, Wisconsin is the cheese capital of USA.
We visited a cheese shop in nearby town, Baraboo, pop 12.5k then a lively state park around a lake, followed by a pub lunch and bookshop. Later we attended a Democratic fundraiser and met former Lieut Governor of WI, Mandela Barnes, 37. Neighbours came for dessert. Fabulous day!Read more
