Stretched our legs under this old rail bridge with its corrugated iron sheep decorations.

  • Jindabyne

    February 2, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Camped under the poplar trees at the NRMA campground on the shores of Lake Jindabyne - very picturesque spot with the Banjo Paterson parkway running between the park and the lake. After steak sandwiches for dinner we walked along the pathway for about 2kms then returned to camp as it was starting to get quite chilly.Read more

    February 3, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Slow cold start today, walked back down to the lake after brekkie where there were a few people swimming. Temperature warmed up by the time we’d packed up and went into the village to buy some fancy head lamps and an early lunch at Little Messa.Read more

  • Campsite

    Feb 4–7, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

A lot of campers have bugged out today, we are now in a section of the camping area to ourselves. Went down to the “pond” to collect some showering water then walked to the other side of the bend for an icy, but very refreshing dip (no one else was down in this section). Back to camp for bacon and eggs for a late lunch. The wind has picked up and can sense the cool change coming.
We had a very inquisitive brushtail possum visit us, wasn’t bothered by our presence at all.

  • Cooler day

    February 5, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Last night we put up all our canvas walls - the rain came but only briefly. Very overcast this morning with sprinkling rain so we put up the walls to protect the access ladder to the rooftop tent. Now looking a bit like a shanty!
Relaxing day reading, while Charlie was securing our “home”, collected water for washing and went for a walk up the hill and then along the river.
A bit more rain after our steak sandwiches for dinner.

  • Overnight in Jindabyne

    February 6, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

After the rain stopped we packed up and back on to Guthega Rd, then Kosciusko Rd back to Jindabyne for lunch and shopping. We had to buy some new walking shoes for Charlie, so as the day was getting on we decided to stay at the NRMA park again in town. Very cold night.Read more

  • Into Victoria

    February 7, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

On to the Barry Way, the first section is bitumen then turns to gravel all the way to the border (road is signposted not suitable for caravans or semi-trailers)
Very scenic drive, looking very green with healthy cows dotted along the way.
Once we climbed altitude, we were away from rolling hills into rugged treed track clinging to the side of the mountains.
Drove into Jacob’s Creek campsite (where we had camped on a previous trip during Covid) decided to plug on to somewhere new.
Stopped for lunch at Willis campsite in Victoria and thought about camping there until a red belly black snake slithered out of the grass!

  • Hamilton Gap

    February 8, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Hamilton Gap is on Suggan Buggan Rd - a narrow, winding, steep gravel single lane road, and a bit scary. Signs indicate to use our UHF radio to check for oncoming vehicles, fortunately the road was quiet today.
Once out of the narrow section we entered into pastoral land with a few grazing cattle and a few homes.
Turned left onto Limestone Road heading west towards Benamba.

  • CRB campsite

    February 8, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Home for the night! Arrived while the Parks Victoria maintenance man was mowing the grass, so we waited for him to tidy our site then set up camp. Peaceful spot on a bend of the fast flowing Cobungra River, and we have the whole area to ourselves. Charlie was up fixing the rooftop tent which had been playing up for us while I finished reading my book.Read more

    February 9, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Stopped here for lunch and decided to stay the night. Prioritised as a horse camp but again we have the whole place to ourselves. Further back down the road is the very pretty Raspberry Hill camping area (right on the road though) where we stayed about 20 years ago, but skipped it this time as there were already people camping there.
When the sun is out it’s almost hot but once it goes behind the clouds out come the jackets! There was a small creek where we could collect water for washing.

  • Fainters Falls

    February 10, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

A peaceful trail in north eastern Victoria, located in between Falls Creek and Mount Beauty. This out and back route begins and ends from the trailhead of Bogong High Plains Road.

  • Tawonga Gap

    February 10, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Driving the winding road that links Mt. Beauty to Bright we stopped at the Tawonga Gap with fabulous views of Victoria’s highest peak, Mount Bogong and the Kiewa Valley.

  • Bright

    February 10, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Home for tonight - NRMA caravan park (ensuite site). Arrived after another day of winding roads, Bright is a very pretty town with magnificent huge trees lining most streets, with a population of about 2,600. Temperature isn’t too bad, around 28 degrees. Walked into town for dinner at Elm Dining in a character building on Great Alpine Road.
The forecast for tomorrow is 31 degrees so we decide to head back up the mountains towards Dargo.
