  • Wagon Claypan dam

    14 lipca 2024, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

About 18kms west of ‘Old Andado’ is the working Andado Station, from here we started to look for a decent spot to camp, but there being little to no trees to shield us from the track we had to go another 30kms further south to get a good way off the road and so camped at Wagon Claypan dam.

We only saw 3 other cars today going in the opposite direction.

We could collect plenty of firewood so had another warming fire for the cold night to come.

  • Painted Desert

    16 lipca 2024, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Spectacular views in this amazing landscape - which is why we’re back for the third time!

This Breakaway country is the result of prolonged weathering. Because of its geological importance, 850km² of the Painted Desert area was declared "The Arckaringa Hills state heritage area" in 1985.

Unfortunately it was very overcast so not the best light for photos - plus it was blowing a gale!

  • Coober Pedy

    16–17 lip 2024, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Good gravel road south into Coober Pedy on the Kempe Road. We weren’t looking forward to a windy night in a campground in Coober Pedy without a campfire so we booked into the Lookout Cave Underground Hotel. The hotel has access to the “roof” for a 360 degree view of the town.

The next morning we’re up and away early to fast track it home. Very foggy until about 9.30am.

  • Berri

    18–19 lip 2024, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

A long day of driving (firstly through fog) on the Stuart Highway through SA’s desert landscape and then into Port Augusta with views of the Flinders Ranges to the east.

On to the A1 then off towards Crystal Brook, Gulnare, Spaulding and Burra with their lovely old stone homes and buildings.

It was overcast with sporadic rain all day so it was nice to finally arrive in Berri for the night. Berri, better known as Australia’s fruit bowl, has some of Australia’s best regional produce and is lined with rich riverbanks teeming with wildlife, especially pelicans. We stayed at the Berri Hotel situated on the Murray River and had a huge dinner at their restaurant.

Thursday - weather still cold and overcast and we pushed through to Wagga Wagga for the night, staying at The International Hotel.

Friday - ditto for weather, everything is looking very green due to recent rainfalls.

Arrived home safe and sound with another successful trip completed!
