    After a long journey, we finally arrived in Puno that will be our base to explore the Titikaka lake. The altitude here is about 3800m and the lake view dominates the area.

  • Floating island in Titikaka

    On the lake Titikaka, we got introduced to the ancient and fascinating culture of the floating islands and their inhabitants. These people live on a multitude of floating islands made of dried rush. Some islands are small hosting just a few families while others are large and support institutional buildings such as schools or ambulatory.

    We had a chance to meet some of these people and see how they live following the ancient traditions. An amazing and unique experience.

  • Experience on a traditional boat

    When we finished our visit to the floating island and the families living there, they took us for a ride on one of the traditional boats.
    With a local lady as our captain and rowing we slowly moved across the floating island to reach one of the main island used as refreshing station for tourists.
    Such an ancient way of living surviving until today is incredible.

    After the floating island, our exploration of the lake took us to Taquile island, the main island on the Peruvian side of the lake.
    The community living in this large island still follows the ancient Inca rules of living and all individuals are strongly bonded in a community that supports and directs the life of the island.
    During our short walk the local guide explained the many species of endemic plants and the way of living on the island.
    Together with the stunning panoramic view this was another exciting experience

  • Lunch in Taquile

    After finishing our walking tour of the island, we stopped for lunch at one of the family restaurants managed by local families. There is a strict rotation set up by the community authority to ensure each family can receive a similar amount of tourists.
    With a great view and simple delicious food we close our exploration of Taquile.

  • Horror pre-dinner drinks

    After a short walk across Puno, we stopped for a drink in a horror themed bar in the main square.
    The interior and the menu are fully characterized with horror pieces such as Wickes, vampires, ghosts and Friday 13th.
    The list of drinks is long and we end up having a couple of devil potions... A funny experience preparing for dinner.

  • Long transfer from Puno to Arequipa

    We moved early in the morning for a 6h transfer that will bring us to Arequipa. Together with the rest of the group we jumped on our small bus for this long transfer with only one stop planned half-way.
    As we move from the high mountains to lower altitude, we can see the nature and landscape transforming around us. A tiring journey but full of amazing views all around.

  • A break along the road

    To take a break from the bumpy roads, we had a quick stop in a small post along the road. The place offers some snacks, sandwiches and refreshments. We had a chance to relax a moment after 3h on the bus and enjoy the view of the three volcanos surrounding this area...

  • Chill and drinks in Arequipa

    Arrived in Arequipa, we have a free afternoon to explore the city and relax after the long bus transfer. Looking around for a good place to enjoy food and the local pisco cocktails, we ended up in China Fusion. On the lovely terrace we had a chance to taste some local dishes and a very good pisco sour. A great way to recharge energy!Read more

    We organized our dinner at Chica, a cool restaurant next to the S.Caytilina monastery. The atmosphere and food were fantastic. A great way to close this relaxing afternoon in Arequipa.

    On our 2nd day in Arequipa, we went on a guided walking/driving tour of the city. The first stop was a nice spot above the city center with a stunning panoramic view of the three volcanos surrounding the city.Read more

  • Arequipa the white city

    Our tour of Arequipa continues with a walk through the ancient city center where buildings are made from white volcanic stones giving the city its name of "the white city".
    The old part of the city is truly fascinating and also the ancient church is amazing showing a mix of Christian and local symbols fused in the decorations.Read more

  • The monastery of S. Catilina

    While in Arequipa we can't miss the Monastery of S.Catilina, one of the main attractions of the city. This huge monastery complex is like a small city isolated inside the city, with dormitories, private rooms, chapels commercial and food preparation area and amazing inner chiostre.
    Walking inside the complex is amazing with vibrant red and blue colours, the gardens and all the history related to this place.

  • San Camillo market

    We finished our guided tour of Arequipa with a visit to the central covered market, the San Camillo market. The place is huge and lively, full of small shops, people and colors.
    Here one can find everything, from fresh fruit and vegetables, to textiles, to local food. This was a true immersion in the local life and products and a really nice closing touch for our city tour.Read more

  • Another Pisco stop in Arequipa

    When we returned from our city tour, we rested for a moment at our hotel and then we moved toward the city center looking for a good place for a quick bite. Along the road we discovered this nice place with an amazing terrace, tasty food and great pisco cocktails.Read more

    As we slowly walked around the city center, we decided to stop for a refreshing lemonade in a nice place of the central square. The rooftop terrace offered a great view of the square and the main church and we could chill for a while and decide for the next stop.Read more

    For our last dinner in Arequipa, we chose the Zig Zag restaurant, a nice place specialized in meat. The location was curated and the food was great and in generous portions. A tasty way to close our stay in the city.Read more

  • Long transfer to Nazca

    This day is fully dedicated to the transfer from Arequipa to Nazca. It's a 10h bus ride essentially without stops.
    The long-distance bus was a surprise with very large and comfortable seats and a silent driving.
    When we reached the coast road we could also enjoy some amazing views of the ocean. A long, but comfortable journey.

  • Ready to take off on Nazca lines

    For this day we planned a flight experience to see the ancient Nazca lines. These are huge stylised figures created in the desert terrain that can be fully appreciated only from a plane.

  • Nazca lines

    The 30-minite flight tour gave us an opportunity for a unique look at all the main figures among the Nazca lines. Flight on a small plane shaking left and right was a thrilling experience, but the view of the ancient figures drawn by Nazca people thousands of years ago repaid us.
    The actual shapes are not always easy to spot in photos but the experience was great!

  • Dinner and double Pisco

    After another 5-hour bus transfer, we finally arrived in Paracas at 7 pm. This is a small city on the ocean side that will be our base for the expedition to Blanco island.
    We arrived just on time to enjoy a delicious fish based dinner with arroz the mariscos and a fish soup. To complete the experience, we accompanied the food with pisco sour! Then the hotel kindly gave us a complimentary drink, so we had a chance for a double pisco!Read more

  • Breakfast with sea view

    To get some energy for our island tour in Paracas, we got a nice breakfast at the hotel buffet. A good coffee and some delicious pancakes and with a sea view it's the perfect combination to start the day!Read more
