  • Landed in Bali

    5. juli 2019, Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 79 °F

Landed in Bali safe! We both slept most of that 5hr flight. Now waiting in a long line for our passport check... hoping our driver will wait! 😃😆

  • Good morning!!!

    5. juli 2019, Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 82 °F

The zest hotel isn’t exactly what we expected but it still blows us away with the food, pool and kindness the people have. No, literally, I feel like my existence is rude compared to anything and everything here 😂.

Along with that, I’m going to have to speak for both of us since mom can’t remember how to say thank you. Love you mom, but it’s terima kasih (t-dray-ma-cas-e) not (t-dray-ma case).

  • Dip in the pool

    5. juli 2019, Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 82 °F

We took a long walk around town to find a place the exchange our 💵 money, got a bit lost, shopped for some clothes and earned ourselves a dip in the pool!

  • Good morning day 2

    6. juli 2019, Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 75 °F

Last night I ate dinner solo. Kayla crashed about 8pm and I ate dinner in the hotel restaurant With a nice glass of wine. Met a really nice family of 3, dad and 2 kids from Australia. Kids (14 & 16) had fun questions about the USA and I gave them U.S. dollars as momento’s.

We got us up about 4am. Tried to get a sunrise experience ;). Off to breakfast!

  • Atempt at shopping

    6. juli 2019, Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 79 °F

Traffic can be a little wonky, honking all the time. Their honking is meant to be polite to let people know you’re coming around the corner. And the scooters are extremely brave!!!

So we started off our day with another great breakfast, Picked up some yogurt along the way. I ended up eating a black charcoal yogurt and it was actually good! We tried to do some shopping but no luck finding the store we wanted.

We did run into a couple from Australia, from the day before, that helped us find the bank.... How funny they mentioned they were thinking about us and if we were ok. The Australians here super nice!

  • The experience

    6. juli 2019, Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 82 °F

All around the city offerings are placed in front of businesses and in shrines to the many gods. You have to be very careful not to step on them.

We ran across a building that was playing beautiful music! Gave us a chance to sit and relax in the shade.Les mer

  • Evening Stroll

    6. juli 2019, Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 81 °F

Romped around the neighborhood.... visited the beach and had an early dinner. We found “crab buddies” and shells.

Kayla found Italian food for dinner and I tried an espresso martini...... 😋 and had a sad moment when our Nutella dessert was a pocket... not balls. 😂 😝Les mer

  • Let the day begin!

    7. juli 2019, Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 79 °F

Playing catch up....we did so much today with our wonderful tour guide..... I didn’t have time to post. (About to play catch up with all we did.)

Started off the morning with a Local breakfast.

  • Under Water Walk

    7. juli 2019, Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 79 °F

Started off our 6 day tour with Melly by walking under water.

So we took a boat ride out to the under water location. On the ride out Kayla is mentioning that she is getting really nervous. I’m trying to keep her calm and excited that it will be fine. Come to find I was the one that needed to be encouraged....😣. They give us a quick review of what hand signals to give.....stop, help, I’m ok, breath through you nose,...oh, and don’t look down or your mask will fill with water....lol.

Kayla wants me to go first....ok. We are told to step on to the side of the boat ladder and they place the helmet over our heads. They then tell us start to go down under the water BUT what I did not expect was the scuba guide to grab my waste and drag (DRAG) me to the bottom....HOLY CRAP...I almost had a panic attack!! Sooo, I look down, mask start to fill with water, my ears are popping, I feel like there is not enough air....the guide looks at me and signals me to calm down. 😫 All I could think about was Kayla FREAKING out.... So the guide leaves me to go back up up and get Kayla...I’m so worried for her because I can’t tell her what’s about to happen. Next thing I see is Kayla coming down with the guide and what does she give me...a smile and an OK sign. 👌🏽 As soon as I saw she was just fine I calmed down and enjoyed the walk. We laughed so hard after!

  • Beach 1 - photo

    7. juli 2019, Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 81 °F

Honestly, I can’t remember which beach this was but it was a new place for Melly too. Do not swim and was posted because of the rough waves but boy was it beautiful!

  • Beach 2- Del Piwardeng - photo

    7. juli 2019, Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 81 °F

The second beach we visited was a bit of a walk. It led to a small village through a secret set of steps down into a cave. Beautiful area in a nice cool cave that led to a beach with a ship wreck. Had a couple tussles with the rushing water but no one got swept away!Les mer

  • Uluwatu temple and Kecak dance

    7. juli 2019, Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 79 °F

So we visited Uluwatu temple that lets the monkeys roam. (Yes, real monkeys) Unfortunately we didn’t have time to catch any monkey photos. We walked around the temple for a short time and enjoy the beautiful sunset at the theater. The dance reflects a beautiful story with a traditional Bali dance. Notice, there’s no instruments, only the clicking sounds from the performers. If you’d like to read more you’ll see a photo of the story in the pictures.Les mer

  • Easy day

    8. juli 2019, Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 82 °F

So today we did not feel very well. Think the time difference is getting to us. Decided to delay and run around with Melly tomorrow.

We did get out to do lunch... also did a dinner and a show! Had a blast! So proud of Kayla for getting on stage and stepping outside her comfort zone!Les mer

  • The drive around

    9. juli 2019, Indonesia ⋅ ☁️ 79 °F

During our drive from place to place :
    1. The drive is something I can not comprehend. They share the road so closely with the scooters and other cars. The roads are so small but they move around so comfortably. So glad I am not driving!
    2. We came across a cremation ceremony. Melly mentions that they do have laws but traditions (like this ceremony) do not have to abide by the laws and can block streets. The culture is strong here. ❤️
    3. Photo: every family home has a temple. Only those is that family can attend their own temple. They then have town temples that only people from that village can attend. Then each area has a larger temple that everyone can attend. They are required to pray/ make offerings at least twice a day.

  • RTV'ing in Ubud

    9. juli 2019, Indonesia ⋅ ☁️ 81 °F

Started off our day with a relaxing RTV ride through the rice fields and the beautiful forest. Kayla spent half the time behind the wheel and did a great job!

They have 4 planing rotations a year. 3 times is rice, 4th time is peanuts.Les mer

  • Local coffee and tea!

    9. juli 2019, Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 86 °F

After the RTV we had a nice lunch at a coffee plantation. They offered samples of teas and coffees to try.

The Luwak coffee is the special one our teacher is preparing for us. It’s the most expensive coffee In the world but it’s cheep in Bali. It was discovered that the animal you see in the cage (not sure what it is) selects only the best beans, eats them and then ...ummm.... poops them out. 😝

Kayla stuck with the teas and selected the Rosella to take home.
