1.) Auckland Airport

We missed our connecting flight because of luggage delays. Still waiting with everyone else for the first bags to arrive…..1 hour 45 minutes after our flight landed.
We still need to somehow get to Christchurch. Update: our bags arrived two hours after we landed and ten minutes after our connecting flight left without us. We’re waiting for the next flight now. The weather is cold and very rainy. A nice change from the heat!En savoir plus

2.) Day One with Doreen and Murray

We FINALLY got our bags, went through Biosecurity and made our connecting flight to Christchurch where we met Doreen and Murray.
After a brief stop at a quilt shop and cafe, we drove on through ever-changing landscapes to Lake Tekapo. We have an AirBnB for tonight. We went in the hot springs and then had dinner at a restaurant nearby. Early night!En savoir plus

3.)Day Two at Lake Tekapo and Lake Pakuk

We visited the historic Church of the Good Shepherd on Lake Tekapo before driving by Lake Pakuki on our way to Mount Cook, stopping often to take photos along the way.
Mount Cook is stunning (the photos do not do it justice!), with a glacier, a glacial river and two very scary swing bridges. Tonight we are at Doreen’s and Murray’s home in Lake Wānaka,En savoir plus

Doreen and Murray took us to a salmon fishing lake where Liam caught two fish. We had them hot smoked and will have them for tea this evening.
We also visited Puzzling World, where Liam and I visited the Illusion Rooms.
On the way home we stopped at Lake Wānaka.
It was a good thing we visited Mount Cook, etc., yesterday because it rained and snowed last night and all those roads were closed,En savoir plus

9.) Day Four in Wānaka

We had a blobbing day today. We all went to the supermarket where we saw unfamiliar items. We bought honey, of course, including Manuka. 🍯🍯🍯
After lunch we split up. Murray and Liam visited a distillery and an overlook at the base ski area while Doreen and I shopped for Merino wool VF clothes for Liam. I found a pair of possum fur/Merino wool VF gloves I suddenly had to have. 🧤🧤🧤
Dinner was lamb steaks and root vegetables, followed by several rousing games of Rat-a-Tat-Cat. Liam won every game. 🤨En savoir plus

10.) Day Five: Driving to the Farm

Today we got up early to drive from Wānaka to the sheep farm. The farm is located at the southern tip of the southern island.
Unfortunately, for the first time, I got very sick on the ride. It cast a pall over the rest of the day, as I was weak even after I recovered from the nausea, stomach pain and dizziness.
However, we still passed through gorgeous scenery, and visited Arrowtown, Queenstown and Kingston on our way.En savoir plus

16.) Day Seven: Liam sheared a sheep!

Liam helped shear a sheep!!! We later drove to Gore to meet Doreen’s friends for a birthday lunch. Then we drove back to Wānaka.

VoyageurSí, las ovejas merinas fueron una potente industria en España desde finales de la Edad Media hasta el S XVIII. La merina fue un monopolio español y su exportación se castigó incluso con la muerte. La trashumancia, el traslado de las ovejas en busca de pastos, estuvo protegida por una institución llamada la Mesta. Las ovejas recorrían España de norte a sur y de sur a norte a través de los caminos reales.
