• Heidelberg Day 1

    November 23 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 1 °C

After Karlsruhe we headed on to Heidelberg where we are spending the next few days. Raymond has to work tomorrow (using up the rest of his vacation for the year was only enough for the weeks minus a day, but it didn’t make sense to drive all the way home by this evening then head out again tomorrow evening so he will just work from here), and like Karlsruhe the Christmas market starts tomorrow.

After we got unpacked we headed out for a short wander before it got too cold and it was pretty nice. There is a main pedestrian road right through town that we walked down and spied on all the things. I had planned on making dinners while we were here, but we found some delicious sounding restaurants so we shall see…but it was pretty nice. There is a river right through town, but it was very windy on water so we didn’t spend a ton of time there as it was really cold.

A few days ago I had been telling Raymond about a Hallmark movie that took place here at the Christmas market and then totally forgot about it once we were here. When we were walking back to our place he asked if it was just like the movie and I was like not really…it is not what I remembered! The lady starts by walking up a steep hill to find the place she is staying and we were just on the pretty flat ground so it must have been either across the river or in the hill with the castle…but I couldn’t really remember what the market looked like, so I was like well we are just going to have to rewatch it to see all the filming locations! And the last two photos with the Christmas markets (where you can see the castle on the hill) are where they filmed them and also on the bridge and they took a walk on a walking trail on the other side of the river that I have on our to do list if we have time! So that was fun seeing the places we just walked through!

So it was a nice wander and I will go explore more and run some errands tomorrow until Raymond is done with work. It said it might snow tonight, but then tomorrow is supposed to be slightly warmer so hopefully we don’t freeze as much!
