    Międzyzdroje - Turquoise Lake hike

    Yesterday we drove up to Międzyzdroje on the Polish coast. When we had gotten back from Norway we were trying to decide if we wanted to take advantage of first Friday this month (Raymond doesn’t have to work the first Friday. Sometimes he has to finish up a few things in the morning and then we can do something in the afternoon). The original plan was to go down to Harz, but that seemed like a lot so I decided on a more relaxed trip up to the coast. If we don’t feel like doing anything we can always hang out and look at the water which I will happily do all day! We normally come up here a few times a year, but this is the first time we have come back to a town we had been to! We came to this same town last year at this time and I really enjoyed it so I be thought why but come back and explore more? Though we are staying at a different place in downtown which is still really nice and I am sitting here enjoying the water view as I write this! This is definitely one of my favorite spots up here!

    So today we had a relaxing morning and then decided to drive over to do the Turquoise lake hike - a hike around the lake that was originally a chalk mine. We started hiking and Raymond was like I thought this was going to be a boring old lake walk, but this is fun! The trail went up and down a bunch of ravines and we also found some ruins of some sort. When we got about halfway around we decided to take a detour out to Lubin to see what we could see and I was glad we did! There was this fun little library made of wood near the church and a viewpoint over a reverse river delta which was fun! And so many birds! We are going to have to come back and go to the next town over and explore the delta more! I didn’t even know it was there!

    Then it was back to the car and on to home. The walk was really nice through the woods with all the leaves changing. On the way home we went by this odd little bunker museum which was just a ton of stuff on the side of the road…of course we had to stop and look! It was a pretty nice adventure!    Leggi altro

    Międzyzdroje - Beach Walk

    When we got back from our morning hike we had a break then headed off to walk down the beach a bit to this staircase that was closed the last time we were here. It was not too cold or windy which was nice (normally it is freezing and so much wind when we are up here!). The staircase has 273 steps up and then nice path through the woods back to town.

    At sunset the sky turned a very strange color. Like it got brighter and just felt odd…in a movie it would be like a hint that things were not okay anymore! Or something. It was very strange, but overall a pretty nice day!    Leggi altro

    Międzyzdroje - Walk through the Park

    Today we got up and headed off for a long walk through Wollinski National Park (the lake yesterday was also part of the park). It was pretty much a straight walk through the woods to the town on the other side. There is a bison enclosure inside (though we didn’t go in) and it was so sunny and gorgeous out it was a perfect day. We found a strange spider, the ball is actually a marble gall wasp! We used the identifying app to learn that and then found out the wasps lay their eggs in a leaf with something that tricks the tree into diverting resources to it and building a protective shell over the egg. Then when the wasp is ready to hatch it eats it’s way out. I had never heard of these before so that was fun! Also found some weird wasp or something walking on the ground moving in a very strange way! It was a really nice walk through the woods!

    When we got back it was on time to have a break then watch the sunset! Normally it is so cloudy when we are up here, but today was perfect!    Leggi altro

    Today we got up and packed up and headed over up some lakes to wander around. The first part of the day was just the lake, we saw a crane on the dock at the one! So I was trying to get a photo and creeping closer and closer…and then realized it was plastic!

    After that we walked into the National park again and man the park is so much nicer! The paths are nice, the trees look green and purple which is fun, it is just a lot nicer than the surrounding! We wandered until it was time to head home and then off we went. We walked way more than I expected, but it was another sunny gorgeous day! I really love this area of the Polish coast!
