Międzyzdroje

We always come up to the coast during the off season when it is cold and not super busy (and a lot of restaurants and such are closed). This year I decided we should come up over the summer and see what it is like. How busy is it? What are the towns like full of people? So we headed up to Międzyzdroje, the same place we have been twice before. I do really like this town as there are a couple places to get food if we want, it is not completely dead in winter, and the place we stay is pretty nice with views of the water.
When we got here and looked at the beach from our place we were like it is not busy at all! There are hardly any people! It actually looks less busy than in winter…then we wandered down the promenade and it was way busier than normal, but not overcrowded. All the stops and stuff were open which was fun as we were like oh! This is what’s here! And we spied a few restaurants that had options for me if we want to eat out one day. Then we walked back along there beach and there were tons of people! Lots of people walking and lots of people sitting on the beach (normal we are the only people who sit there when we take breaks or eat lunch on the beach)! And we walked back to our place along the beach and there were lots of people (but not super crowded still, just way more people than we normally see) until we got to the section of beach we can see from our place and there were hardly any people! But if you keep walking past it there were lots of people again…it is very odd! I don’t know why there is no one right here.
It is also much cooler than it was in Berlin! And windy today! I’m glad I brought some warm layers as I need them! I was hoping to swim one day, but we shall see if it actually gets warm enough for me to! We did put our feet in on our walk and it was pretty cold, but seemed like you could get used to it and if it is warm enough outside I won’t freeze. We shall see! But it is so nice sitting out in our balcony and enjoying the views! With the wind there are lots of waves and I love it! Though I am not used to it being so light it when we get here - normally the sun has set Is is about to see when we arrive, but today we had lots of time till sunset.Read more

Day 2

Today was such a nice day! The weather was perfect! All day Raymond kept saying how nice it was up here the first weekend of July. How we know it’s not too busy for the future, but everything is open and the weather is perfect! Which is true. He kept commenting on how there are a lot of people, but it is not crowded which is nice.
We decided to head through town and go west along the beach today and explore the beach we haven’t gone before! The first time here we stayed on the western edge of town, but always headed East through town or the National park so we decided to explore where we haven’t yet. There is not much west of town, just forests and the water (and a very long stretch of Buddhist beach) until you get to the next town about 12km away I think. It was a nice forested walk and we would head down to walk along the beach a bit here and there (and take breaks and enjoy the water). Right outside of town there were some people, but not too many, but by the time we took a break before heading back as were the only people on the beach! You could see town from there and got full of people the beach was there, but no one out by us. It was sunny off and on and just a gorgeous day! By the time we were walking back to town the clouds had cleared up completely and it was hot so we got some gelato - melon for me! They were the tiniest scoops ever and precariously placed in the cones, but pretty tasty.
This evening we went to a brewery for dinner beet burgers which were ginormous! Like the size of my head which is way bigger than we were expecting! But pretty tasty and they came with sweet potato fries which were also very good. Raymond tried one of their beers and I had a virgin mojito - it was so nice they offered nonalcoholic cocktails! Then back to our place for sunset on the balcony. Walking through town after dinner a lot of places had live music playing for dinner which was nice and unexpected. Such a nice day, really perfect weather, not too hot not too cold. This afternoon I probably could have swam in the cold water as the sun was warm enough, but we relaxed after our long walk instead. Maybe tomorrow if it is warm enough :) Oh, and we kept seeing fancy ship sailing around the water which was fun (you can see it if you zoom in on the last photo - it went by again as we were sitting in the balcony).
There is also a festival going on here this weekend and each night there has been a band playing on the big stage in the middle of town. I’m sitting on the balcony right now listening :)Read more

A walk through the woods

Today was another great day! We headed out to walk through Wollin National Park, a walk we did last time we were here. I remembered it took a few breaks to get to the other side so I was like we will go as far as we go in 2 breaks then turn around as it was so warm this morning we thought we might swim this afternoon. Well…we made it to the other side within 2 breaks! I was like I really thought this took us longer and we were trying to figure out why it would have…then I realized there were lots of mushrooms and things to look at in the fall so that does take more time when I am stopping every two seconds to look at things! Plus we added in another side hike which I had forgotten about until we got to the other side.
Last time I remembered seeing on the map a point of interest that was a tree just off the trail, but I was too tired to try and find it then, and since we were almost there after the first break I said let’s just eat lunch at the tree then turn around. The tree is in the cypress family and is very big with a sign and fun bench in front of it. It is a different type of tree than what is around here, but not super exciting. We still enjoyed it.
On the way back we had to stop at the store to get some bread and ended up walking through a bit of town we hadn’t before and I am glad we did! We found a fancy gelato place that had a kiwi apple avocado sorbet that we tried and it was really good and refreshing! Then we found a Georgian bakery and got some bread with spices and a pastry with eggplant, tomato and bell pepper - both were super good! The bread was huge and delicious and I feel like I could have eaten the whole thing! So fun!
Then on the walk back to our place we went by so much live music in the bars and restaurants and some guys playing the accordion on the promenade which I really enjoyed. But then when we got back to our place it started raining and got cold so no swimming. Oh well, maybe next time.
Tomorrow we pack up and do one more hike before heading home.Read more

Last Day

Today we got up and packed up and headed off for a quick walk before heading home. Last time we had walked around this lake and found out about a reverse river delta nearby so I thought why not do that walk again, but starting from the delta side as it was a nice viewpoint over there. Once we got there I spied on my trail app and found another hike through the forest to the oldest tree in the National park so we decided to try that one instead of the lake. First we spied on the views from the parking lot and the reverse delta was so green! So much greener than in the fall! Then it was off through the woods to the tree…which was no longer alive! There was a sign there about how the forest changes all the time, but sometimes it is on the order of 100’s of years, and how this tree was first damaged in 1994 by a storm and then a storm in 2010 took it out for good. But that is not a bad thing as now sunlight reaches areas it didn’t before and the seeds from this tree have been deposited by birds and things so it’s offspring is growing in the area and making new forest. We laughed when we got there and the tree was no longer.
Then back to the car and we headed up the lake trail a bit to a higher viewpoint as it wasn’t that far. It was really nice up there! Then off to head home. I really enjoyed the weekend on the water and now I am planning to go back next month if we can find a place as it was so nice I didn’t want to come home!Read more
