    Świnoujście

    March 6 in Poland ⋅ ☀️ 11 °C

Today we headed up to the coast again, this time to Świnoujście. We haven’t been here before, but it is just over the border from Germany and is the next town over from where we went last time. And last time we had seen the reverse river delta that is here from Lubin and I said next time we need to go explore there! So that is the plan. There are lots of open paths to wander so it should be fun.

Świnoujście is probably the biggest city we have been to outside Szczecin. It is like a real town and we plan on exploring here tomorrow! The first photos are the views from our place. There were no places overlooking the beach and the Baltic, but there is a canal with lots of ferry traffic so I said yes! Let’s go watch the boats!

When we got here it was still light out! I think this is the latest we have ever come up here and the warmest too! Normally it is a bundle up in all the layers so this weekend should be nice. It’s supposed to be 12C (53F) and sunny so perfect for wandering. We just wandered a bit around our place and spied on some of the boat, but tomorrow will be explore the town and beach!

  • Świnoujście Wandering

    March 7 in Poland ⋅ ☀️ 4 °C

This morning we woke up to a super sunny day that was perfect for wandering! There was lots of boat activity that were watched while eating breakfast (including lots of smoke on one of the navel shops that we were trying to figure out what it was, but then when the boat left we realized the engine makes a lot of smoke!) which was fun. We headed off to explore the town and it is a lot small than in thought yesterday. Most of the town is parks which were nice. We went by a small one that had a super fun playground with all these giant cement things which I loved, then wandered through the big park by some forts and along the canal to the beach on the Baltic.

Eating lunch at the beach it was so quiet! Raymond was like normally the waves are so loud, but there are hardly any waves! That’s cause it was not windy. Normal there is a lot of wind and we walk with the wind down the beach and then go back through town as it is kind of miserable walking against the freezing cold wind. But today was gorgeous and the sun was so warm and it was perfect!

We wandered down the beach a bit then had a walk along the very wide promenade which was really busy with lots of people eating and having drinks outside! It was pretty nice. Probably the fanciest promenade we have been to here!

Then it was back home for Kaffe and kuchen time with a vegan chocolate mousse tart! It was super tasty and we relaxed and watched the boats go by. All in all a really fun day!

  • Walk Along the Canal

    March 8 in Poland ⋅ ☀️ 8 °C

Today we woke up to another beautiful day! A little hazy, but sunny and gorgeous!

After breakfast we headed out to the big national forest area nearby and walked along the canal out to the farthest point. The path we took out was right on the water and really nice - straight almost the whole way. There were lots of birds and boats and all the fun things to see! Lots of great cormorants in the trees and they sound like movie monsters! I don’t think I ever heard them making noise before!

We got out to the far point for lunch then walked back through sand dunes and the forest and saw so many fun tiny birds and tons of great spotted woodpeckers! They were so loud! But walking through the trees with lots of birds singing was so nice! And so hot in the sun! It was a bit chilly walking along the water with a light breeze in the morning, but the air was still in the trees so it quickly warmed up!

It was a really nice walk and it was so empty and quiet out there - I think we saw 6 people on bikes and 3 people walking all day! Then when we left we got out to the main road that had a bike path along it and there were a ton of people there! I guess no one goes out to the reverse river delta park which is too bad. I really enjoyed it and would definitely go back and wander around again!

  • Final Wander

    March 9 in Poland ⋅ ⛅ 7 °C

Today was yet another gorgeous day! We went back into town to where we left off on Friday and walked down the beach to the border with Germany and wandered through the border forest for a bit. There were lots of markings for it - on the one photo with the posts off to the right side there is another set in the hill in the back on the left! So that was fun. At one point Raymond was like we have seen more people in an hour in this weird border forest than we did all day yesterday, which was very true!

We ended up back at the beach for lunch and a final wander by the water before headed back home. It was such a nice weekend and the weather was perfect. We had so much fun watching the boats go by and enjoying the nature.
