Day 59, Ancient Gyeongju

We spent all day, and into the evening, in Gyeongju -, the capitol city of the Kingdom of Silla. The kingdom controlled most of the Korean peninsula for almost 1000 years, beginning in 67BC. Gyeongju grew to be the 4th largest city in the world and one of the ending points of the Silk Road. Today it is a.’museum without walls’ and a UNESCO world historical site. Gyeongju is close to the hearts of all South Koreans because of its centrality to their history and the significance of its Buddhist temples.En savoir plus
