Our last full day at Rasa Ria

It's been a fun, relaxing, and restorative eight days, and today was no exception. Walking🚶‍♀️ on the beach, swimming 🏊‍♂️ in a couple of pools, chatting with several of the staff members & sharing photos 📸 , email 📧 addresses and hugs 🫂. Such is the culture of Rasa Ria that these kinds of interactions between staff and guests are encouraged. We are made to feel like cherished friends. Is it any wonder we continue to return here time after time? There is no doubt that we will be back again someday, even though right now we have no idea when that might be.
We already know that some staff members will sing us the Farewell Song as we leave tomorrow morning. The song incorporates sadness that we are leaving but also an expectation that we will return again and hold Rasa Ria in our hearts 💕 until then. It is such a lovely way to end a visit here.Meer informatie

Saying good-bye (for now) at Rasa Ria

We left Rasa Ria at 7:00 am this morning for our flight to Kuala Lumpur. So many of the staff came to the lobby to sing the farewell song and take photos. It was quite a send-off. They really make it hard to leave.Meer informatie

Our favorite KL hotel - Shangri-la

Another Shangri-la hotel. One of our all-time favorite hotels. We are having a very happy 3 days here, enjoying the good location close to the Petronas Twin Towers, the Horizon Club Lounge and all the benefits that come with that. As with any Shangri-la, the staff members are all amazing 👏. They really make a stay memorable.Meer informatie

Jo and JO Brooks-CaragataNot here. Somewhere else in Asia, sure, but KL is better as a mini-vacation stop, we think. We were out and about this afternoon in an area that reminded us of Yangon, which surprised us. We'd never been to that part of KL before, and suddenly, we found ourselves feeling like it was familiar. It felt good.

Hop On Hop Off bus in Kuala Lumpur

We decided to be a little touristy in KL, so we tried the hop on hop off bus. We didn't do any hopping, though. We stayed on for the full circuit. We saw a lot but not always in a way that allowed good photos.Meer informatie

Tokyo!

We arrived at Haneda at 10:30 last evening. Akiko met us and brought us to our hotel. It was after midnight when we checked in. This is the view we woke up to this morning. Not bad.

Shibuya (Tokyo) with Akiko

We went by train with Akiko to Shibuya, a very busy area of Tokyo. We saw the Hachiko Statue and crossed the street (twice) at the Shibuya Scramble - the one you see in movies & TV shows where pedestrians cross in all directions at once. There are no photos of that because we were focused on getting to the other side together and all in one piece. 😃
We went to tofu restaurant for dinner. Fresh Japanese tofu is so good! The tofu we can get in Sidney is pitiful in comparison.

Sugamo Shopping Street

Sugamo - home of red underwear!
We had been here a few years ago with Kuniko, but today, we went back with Akiko. It's an old-fashioned shopping street and people like to go there to buy red underwear, or really anything red, because red gives power, and who wouldn't want that? It is fun to stroll up and down the street, browsing, maybe buying (although not red underwear), stopping here for lunch, there for a snack and another there for coffee.Meer informatie

Kyu-Furukawa Gardens

Joshinji Temple at Kuhombutsu

What an amazing time we had here today. ❤️ The temple is so beautiful. Wandering around a Japanese temple and its gardens is one of the joys of being in Japan. Our enthusiasm for this temple also reminded Akiko of what she has right in her own neighborhood.Meer informatie

Kobeya - great lunch our last day

Kobeya was one of our favorite restaurants when we lived in Nishinomiya. We were surprised to see that they are in Tokyo, too, so Akiko suggested we have lunch there just before going to the airport. It was just as good as we remembered.Meer informatie

Narita Airport

This is it! It's back to Canada 🇨🇦 now. It has been a wonderful trip 😊 and we hope the 2 flights ✈️ to get us home are just as good.
We have said goodbye to Akiko & are waiting for our flight in a Business Class Lounge - a first for us. Next up: our first ever Business Class flight. Should be an adventure. 😆Meer informatie

The flight to Canada

We had our first experience in Business Class & it was on a Dreamliner, also a first for us. It was pretty amazing. Pods with lie-flat seats, 2 flight attendants for the 16 passengers in this class, very luxurious amenities & services. It probably spoiled us for Economy Class on future flights.Meer informatie

After another WestJet flight from Calgary, we arrived back at YYJ - Victoria International Airport. John met us at the airport and brought us home 🏡 bringing an awesome trip to a happy close. ❤️
