    Flight Day!

    The much rescheduled flight ✈️ day has arrived. Akiko drove us to Haneda Airport, the closer of Tokyo's airports, and also where she works. From there, we got a limousine bus to Narita. This was the most convenient way to get to Narita.

    Right now, as I write this, we are in WestJet's lounge (they don't have their own lounge at Narita, so they use United's). It's very nice and we are sitting in comfortable chairs, enjoying cappuccinos and snacks. Our flight, WestJet 81, will be departing in 2 hours. Until then we can relax here.

    After an overnight flight in our lovely lie flat pods, we will arrive in Calgary, where we will hang out in WestJet's own lounge until it's time for our final flight of this extravaganza - to YYJ.    En savoir plus

    The flight to Canada

    We finally got into the Business Class that we had booked, paid for, and ultimately waited 2 extra days in Tokyo for.

    Business Class is good. There are only 24 pods, with 2 flight attendants, who start by introducing themselves to each passenger individually. Then it's right on to pre-departure drinks. They also provide a tour of the features of the pods - there is a lot to learn. The pods have shoulder seat belts, in addition to the lap belts. If this is a safety feature, why don't all seats have them?

    After take-off, the flight attendants are back with menus for the first meal, and offers of more drinks 🍸. Pretty soon, they are serving dinner, starting with putting tablecloths on the oversize tables, of course.

    After dinner and a movie (sounds like a date 😆), we pushed the lie flat buttons so we could sleep for a few hours. That is the best part of Business Class.

    A couple of hours before landing in Calgary, the flight attendants gently woke us up, so we'd be ready for breakfast.

    And that brings us to Calgary, where we are now awaiting our connecting flight to Victoria.    En savoir plus

    It finally ends!

    After the 10 hour luxurious flight from Narita to Calgary ✈️, and then a brutal 9 hour wait there for our final flight, we finally made it back to YYJ. 🛬

    Thank goodness for John, who was there to pick us up. We were so far beyond tired that we probably couldn't have managed the final 10 minutes home from the airport on our own.

    Still smiling - amazing! 👏 We are filled with happy memories and gratitude for everyone we spent time with. It's been wonderful! Thank you all. ❤️    En savoir plus
