  • Blue Lagoon Snorkelling

    December 3, 2023 in Fiji ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

After pondering the church service we'd just experience we headed out to Blue Lagoon for snorkeling (a place I would be seeing a lot more of it turns out!). I don't have hardly any pictures as my phone screen worked erratically under water. I tried to counter this by taking pictures using the volume button but was unsuccessful, mainly because I was pressing the left side of my phone to find the volume buttons, when I later discovered that the buttons are in fact on the right side. I've only had the phone for 2.5 years. Either way, the fish and coral were beautiful, you'll just have to trust me on that one!Read more

  • Sawa-i-Lau Caves

    December 4, 2023 in Fiji ⋅ 🌬 28 °C

On our final morning we took a very bumpy boat ride to Sawa-i-Lau caves. It was a journey I enjoyed very much as the scenery was stunning!

There were two caves to see here, the first being open aired, but the second could only be accessed by a short (3 second) underwater swim under the rocks. This led to a pitch back enclosed cave which was definitely the highlight and was a pretty cool experience.Read more

  • My Beach Front Hut

    December 4, 2023 in Fiji ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

I arrived at my 4th and final stay of the Yasawa Islands, this time a small bure in the small village of Vunidaka. If my bure had been any closer to the tide it would have been a boat as the waves crashed only a few feet away from where I slept. This did however make for a sublime breeze and terrific views.Read more

  • Walk Across the Island

    December 4, 2023 in Fiji ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

On the opposite coast to the village was the Blue Lagoon beach and Nanuya Island Resort.

I thought I'd go and check if there were any potential hammocks I could sneak into. There weren't and the place was well guarded with staff and signs clearly stating that the facilities were only for guests. I could however use the beach.

The walk made for fantastic views across the island and beyond although it was absolutely baking to do in the daytime.

  • Blue Lagoon Beach

    December 4, 2023 in Fiji ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Blue Lagoon beach is simply stunning and really is like paradise. So I spent a few hours here. The film Blue Lagoon was also filmed here so the location is said to also be very famous!

  • Morning in Vinudaka

    December 5, 2023 in Fiji ⋅ 🌬 27 °C

For my first morning on Nanuya Island milled around the beach of the village which certainly wasn't a bad spot either!

I was well and truly on Fiji time by now which means getting up at 5am, going to bed at 9pm and being on no timetable whatsoever for the rest of the day.Read more

  • Bus to Sigatoka

    December 8, 2023 in Fiji ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

Today I head to Sigatoka on the south coast of Fiji! Bus ticket cost $8FJD (about £3) for the 70 minute journey. Every single seat is full but I've managed to find a spot at the back!

  • Arriving in Sigatoka!

    December 8, 2023 in Fiji ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

I arrived into Sigatoka and was greeted at the bus station by my host Janine. She seems like a lovely lady and is Aussie born but has lived in Fiji for 16 years now! Her 'house' is in a residential area just outside of Sigatoka. I'm in one of the out 'houses' which, like all places in Fiji so far, has its pros and cons. The main pros being that there are plenty of pillows, a nice breeze, 24/7 electricity and great signal. All in all, could definitely be worse!Read more

  • Korotogo Beach

    December 8, 2023 in Fiji ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

This afternoon Janine took myself and another guest down to the beach! The breeze was superbly strong but we managed to steal some sunbeds from the 5* resort that runs onto the beach. The resort had loads of guests and no security so I'll be using their facilities again for sure!Read more

  • Dinner (Attempt 1)

    December 8, 2023 in Fiji ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

A few minutes walk from where I'm staying is a family run outdoor barbecue shack type place serving food. It's open on an ad-hoc basis but my host said its usually open on weekends, great! I pottered down at around 6pm however the place appeared to be closed. As I took a closer look I could hear a voice shouting me. This voice came from one of two men, sat on the balcony of the house just behind the shack. Turns out that the barbecue shack was this guys family business, and he regrettably informed me that they would not be open this evening. He then carried on to tell me that he was making a fish curry for his family that would be ready at around 7:30, and that I would be welcome to come along for a meal on the house. Before I departed, I was gifted a pineapple for the road. You really can't beat the kindness of the Fijian people!Read more

  • Dinner (Attempt 2)

    December 8, 2023 in Fiji ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

At 7:30pm I returned to the strangers balcony and a takeaway fish curry was presented to myself and a fellow homestayer! We enjoyed this sat on this floor back at our accomodation (enjoyed other than the one rogue chilli that cleared my sinuses in an instant).Read more

  • Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park

    December 10, 2023 in Fiji ⋅ 🌬 26 °C

This morning I took a trip to Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park. A vast expanse of naturally built up sand dunes. I was advised to go early in the morning to avoid the sun on this very exposed area of land, which I managed to do, but the wind was ferocious and I now have sand stuck to my sun creamed arms, neck and face.Read more

  • Sunset Dinner

    December 10, 2023 in Fiji ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

My last night in the Sigatoka region called for dinner and drinks down at the beach watching the sunset. Fish and chips with a couple of glasses of white wine 🥂.

  • Leaving Olosara/Sigatoka

    December 11, 2023 in Fiji ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

It's time to move on once again! The man who gave me the fish curry the other day spotted me waiting on the side of the road (for a taxi/bus) and offered me a lift into town with his mate. Made it to the bus stop, spoke to a couple of local women who told me I needed to but a travel card from Vodafone which I've now done and managed to nick the last seat on the bus! Bus cost $8FJD (about £3) for the 1hr 20min journey to Pacific Harbour!Read more

  • Pacific Harbour Beach

    December 11, 2023 in Fiji ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Arriving in Pacific Harbour calls for only one thing, the beach! I took a 20 minute stroll down before infiltrating the sunbeds at Palms Beach Resort. The resort only has 11 apartments yet I still went completely undetected!Read more
