    August 12, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

After I'm almost certain no sleep the sun rose and I watched an unhealthy number of TikTok's to pass the time. But alas I would fly today! Although the flight was 2 hours delayed, an hour because the plane arrived late and the other because when we boarded the plane was imbalanced so they had to start putting people's luggage in the hold and also asked 10 people to disembark.

The only bonus was I had an emergency exit seat with extra legroom. The cost of this flight was $29 with only $3.61 of that going to the airline so I guess what kind of service do you expect.

Anyway, after 1 hour 40 min flight I landed in a very very hot Las Vegas! I took the bus to my hostel which was over the road from a classic Vegas wedding chapel.

  • Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas

    August 12, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 40 °C

Before we get into it, this footprint has broken my all time record on here for hottest footprint at 40 degrees (at 5pm) beating Latin America and the likes of Dubai! Says it all about the heat here and I'm sure this record will be broken over the next few days!

After checking in and having a much needed shower I decided to power through the tiredness and get back on the bus to the very far end of the strip. This being home to the famous Las Vegas sign! There was a big queue to stand in front of the sign and it was so hot in the sun so I decided I'd just sneak a selfie from the side.

My next stop was one of the main events of the strip in the famous Caesar's Palace! The grounds and lobby area are very impressive, with a multitude of sculptures and even an F1 car! I was able to put a bet on Tranmere v Accrington Stanley in the Sportsbook area and settled down in the comfortable seats to watch Tranmere's emphatic 3-0 win on my phone! Both teams didn't score so my bet didn't come in but at least Tranmere won!Read more

Then I tried to get into the Beatles cladded Mirage, only to discover that it closed last month after 30 years in business.

Then there was the huge McDonalds arches and feris wheel, finished off with the flamingos in the garden of the Flamingo hotel.

  • Vegas > Austin

    August 15, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 36 °C

This morning I was up and out of Vegas early to fly to Austin, Texas! Thankfully this flight was not delayed, although despite leaving Vegas at 8:30am we didn't arrive into Austin till 1:30pm thanks to the 2 hour time difference!

Once landed in Austin I had to take a shuttle from one terminal to the main terminal. This shuttle crazily took about 20 minutes, most of which was on the freeway! From their I was able to catch a bus into the centre.

After that I wandered down the main strip on 6th street, definitely doesn't come close to Nashville on an early Friday afternoon. 6th street then turned into a more historic district with some older buildings.Read more
