auckland‘s last impressions

Unterm Strich muss ich sagen, dass ich noch nie so sehr das Gefühl hatte die kolonialistischen Nachwirkungen im Alltag zu spüren, wie in Auckland. Es mag aber auch an der gesamten Reise liegen, die zufällig nicht nur von ehemaligen Englischen Kolonien geprägt ist, sondern auch in dem Zeitraum lag, in dem die Queen verstarb. Was vielleicht in Deutschland nicht so ein großes Thema ist, rollte auf der anderen Hälfte der Welt fragen über Freiheit wieder auf. In Australien und Neuseeland wurden sogar kurzfristige Gedenkfeiertage eingeführt. Möglicherweise verstärke ich das Nachdenken darüber selbst, in dem ich in meiner Freizeit Serien und Filme über das 19. Jahrhundert schaue. Ich finde das Thema gerade so spannend. Vielleicht folgt ja mal eine Arbeit dazu.

All in all, I have to say that I have never felt the colonial aftermath in my everyday life as much as I did in Auckland. But it may also be due to the entire trip, which happened to be not only marked by former English colonies, but was also during the period in which the Queen died. What might not be such a big issue in Germany, rolled up again questions about freedom on the other half of the world. In Australia and New Zealand, even short-term memorial days were introduced. I may be reinforcing the reflection on this myself by watching series and films about the 19th century in my spare time. I find the topic so exciting right now.
