  • Oh, No...

    9 novembre 2019, Italie ⋅ 🌧 55 °F

I knew that something I ate wasn't agreeing with me. I barely made it into the room before I had to make a dash into the bathroom. I told Kathy and Bryan to go and have lunch without me. I'm not feeling well enough to wander the streets of Rome right now. I see that our bathroom has a bidet. This is something that we've never used before. I have a feeling that I'll be learning how to use it today.En savoir plus

  • Pasta

    9 novembre 2019, Italie ⋅ 🌧 54 °F

Kathy loves Italian food and has been wanting to try real Italian pasta for a long time. Once she finally had it, she said that it wasn't quite what she thought it would be. The pasta was a bit hard, as if it wasn't cooked all the way. We'll have to try some more restaurants to see if her meal was undercooked or if this is just the way pasta is eaten here.En savoir plus

  • Free Walking Tours

    9 novembre 2019, Italie ⋅ 🌧 54 °F

After Kathy and Bryan returned from having lunch, we rested up for a bit before going back out to go on our free walking tour of Rome. We usually schedule at least one of these tours whenever we go on vacation.
We were disappointed with this tour and dropped out of it fairly quickly. This is the first time that we've just walked off of a tour but there was so many people on the tour that we could barely get close enough to the tour guide to hear what she said. We enjoy the smaller groups much more. The main reason that we left the tour was after hearing the itinerary. It was all of the same places that we walked around seeing this afternoon. There's too much to see in Rome without seeing everything twice on the same day. We have another free walking tour scheduled in a couple of days. I hope our next tour will be better.

  • The Kiosk

    9 novembre 2019, Italie ⋅ 🌧 54 °F

We saw so many of these kiosks on the streets of Paris and they seemingly sell almost anything you might need. I guess that these kiosks are a European thing because we're seeing a lot of them around Rome also. We haven't bought anything from them yet but if I need something, I know where to go!En savoir plus

  • Let's Walk

    9 novembre 2019, Italie ⋅ 🌧 54 °F

It's starting to rain again, and get dark, but we wanted to go and see something rather than just go back to the hotel. I think that we were all looking forward to that tour, which is why we wanted to go exploring now. Since it wasn't very far away, we decided to go and see the Pantheon.En savoir plus

  • Gelateria Della Palma

    9 novembre 2019, Italie ⋅ 🌧 54 °F

They didn't exaggerate at all. I've never seen so many different flavors of gelato in one place. I'm not sure how good the gelato actually is though because we're seeing mostly tourists in the shop and many of the gelatos have bright vivid colors. I'm remembering that old saying, if the colors too bright, the gelato ain't right.En savoir plus

  • The Pantheon

    9 novembre 2019, Italie ⋅ 🌧 52 °F

It was a bit longer of a walk than I had expected but we finally made it to the Pantheon. The Pantheon is the best-preserved ancient Roman building in Rome. Because the Pantheon was turned into a church, it was kept remarkably well-preserved. In fact, you can still experience the building much as the ancient Romans would have. Sure, some things have changed (there’s a Christian altar here now, for example, and frescoes of saints), but the dimensions of the building, along with much of its decoration, has remained the same.En savoir plus

  • Out and About

    9 novembre 2019, Italie ⋅ 🌧 54 °F

Despite the weather, there were lots of people out and about. I wondered if they were here to see the Pantheon or were just out for a night on the town. This area seems to have lots to bars and restaurants so it could be either choice. At least we're not too far back on the line to get inside the Pantheon.En savoir plus

  • A Little History

    9 novembre 2019, Italie ⋅ 🌧 52 °F

The Pantheon is the best preserved Ancient Roman monument. It's a bit of a mystery how the Pantheon managed to survive barbarian raids when all the rest of Roman monuments had been shattered. Its turning into a church in 609 AD has a lot to do with it in later time, but also the structure itself is way ahead of its time. In fact, the exact composition of the material is still unknown and appears to be structurally similar to modern day concrete! Whatever the reasons are, the Pantheon is the only structure of its age and size that has successfully survived the damage of time and gravity, still intact with all its splendor and beauty.En savoir plus
