    I had to get up real early (3:30) to catch my flights to Reno. On the way, I had a short layover and change of airlines in LAS. Great views of Hoover Dam and the Las Vegas F1 racetrack. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures of the racetrack.Meer informatie

    San Francisco sit

    17–27 nov. 2023, Verenigde Staten ⋅ ☁️ 59 °F

    Housesit with a million dollar view (literally). Two blocks from Haight St. It was raining when we got here and foggy the next morning, but it has cleared up nice. Even views of the Farallón islands.
    2 dogs, a guinea pig, and a gecko.

    Hike in Marin

    We met up with Deborah Irwin and did the Kirby Cove hike. Cold and windy, but beautiful views and a clear blue sky. Afterward, we went to coffee in Sausalito.

    Pacific Coast drive

    We had to leave by 8am for our hotel in Santa Cruz. It's only a two hour drive, but we couldn't check in till four. We spent the day checking out sights along the coast highway.
    First stop, Twin Peaks, then we watched some surfers 🏄‍♂️ at Ocean Beach. Checked out the Devils bunker and the aftermath of the landslide nearby. We stopped at Point Mantara Lighthouse, then had lunch at a delicious Indian restaurant in Half Moon Bay. From there, we made one more stop at Pescadero State Beach, where we helped some young kids find cool stuff in the tide pools.Meer informatie

    Santa Cruz sit

    28 nov.–6 dec. 2023, Verenigde Staten ⋅ 🌙 52 °F

    Arrived at our sit in Santa Cruz. It's a beautiful house with a Bassett hound named Waffles. (and a hot tub)
    We've been walking the dog on the path at the beach ⛱️ It's been quite cold, but who can resist the beach.

    Monarchs in town

    These butterflies are the great great grandchildren of the butterflies that were here last year. Amazingly, these guys live four to six months, but the next three generations live only four to six weeks.
    Every year, thousands of monarchs winter in this moderate coastal climate. They cluster in the trees to save energy and keep warm before setting out again for areas thousands of miles away in spring.    Meer informatie

    Santa Cruz Parades

    We were fortunate enough to be in Santa Cruz the weekend of their annual parades. First was the parade through town in the morning. We got a bit of a late start, so we only caught the end of it. Later in the evening, we headed down to the harbor to watch the lighted boat parade. Both drew large crowds and were fun to watch.Meer informatie

    4 Mile Beach

    We heard about this dog friendly beach just out of town, so we loaded up Waffles and headed out. The beach was great. There were lots of surfers and plenty of sand, but the real treat was on the walk to the beach. The walk required passing fields of brussel sprouts, which just happened to be in season. As the full trucks passed by, sprouts were falling off the trucks. We, of course, walked along the road and gathered up the little balls of green. There were so many we had multiple meals over the next couple of days featuring the delicious morsels.Meer informatie

    Moving into the future

    We took our first driverless taxi to the airport. I can't give it a good review. First, it picked us up in the wrong location. We had to walk to greet it. Then it took twice as long, because it can only travel on certain roads. Then, at the end, it accused me of touching the driver controls.

    Gardnerville sit

    I haven't printed in a bit, so I thought I'd better pop one out.
    Anna got to drive in snow to get here to Gardnerville while I flew to Seattle and drove down with Kylan.
    We had a Christmas dinner at Kirk and Dana's, with them Gauge and Kylan.
    Not as joyous and festive as we expected, but always good to be around family.

    Kylan made it home safe and sound, and I'm on my way back to Gardnerville. Only a 5 hour layover in Vegas.

    End of trip

    After picking them up at the RNO airport, we handed the keys back to the Gardnerville homeowners. Spending one night in Carson City before heading back to RNO in the morning for our double legged/carriers flights to PHX.

    We came back at just the right time to take care of the cheese heads again. We used the time to visit with family and prepare for our upcoming cruise and UK trip. Including van repairs and a new storage spot. Bring on the warm clothes.Meer informatie
