    Busan

    December 11, 2025 in South Korea ⋅ ☀️ 59 °F

We flew into Busan, South Korea. On the way we were able to witness a full circle rainbow.
The next morning, we were in full on tourist mode. We headed to Songdo beach and walked the cloud trails. Anna got to hang with her turtle, buddy.
We rode the Air Cruise cable car from one peninsula tip to another. Of course we paid extra for the special car with the see through floor.
On the other side, we hiked some trails in Amnan park. We stopped a few places along the way to take some pictures and hula hoop.
Over the course of the first two days in Busan, we saw a few other sites in the area of the hotel including Biff street, which is similar to Hollywood blvd, and the Gwangbook fashion street.

  • Busan 2, Gamcheon

    December 13, 2025 in South Korea ⋅ ☁️ 54 °F

Only on saturdays at 2pm do they raise this draw bridge. It's purely for a symbolic reasons. The birds painted on the road, fly to the sky when the bridge is raised. Demonstrating freedom from war and hatred.
We visited the Gamcheon area. Originally a refugee camp, it became a symbol of neighbors working together in harmony. No house blocks the view of another house and all decisions for the neighborhood are made as a group. It's now a artist community. All the houses are brightly painted. The majority of them have some sort of art on them. It's a big tourist draw. There are many items of art located around the village area. Multiple picture taking opportunities. Even the stairs on the steep hillsides are painted.
We finished off the evening walking again down Gwagbok fashion street. This time enjoying the many lighted Christmas decorations.

  • Andong

    December 14, 2025 in South Korea ⋅ 🌙 32 °F

We came to see the Hahoe folk village. A Joseon dynasty village known for traditional mask making. It has a mask museum. Housing masks from throughout Korean history and from all over the world. It also has a really big swing.
We walked a bit around the city of Andong, but it was bitter cold.
We went out to see the Wolyeonggyo bridge. It's touted as the longest wooden bridge in Korea. However, it's actually only the longest wood sided bridge. It's supported by steel. On the way to the bridge, we passed the seven tier stone pagoda.

  • D M Z

    December 17, 2025 in South Korea ⋅ ⛅ 32 °F

I don't know why we thought it would be exciting to get as close to evil North Korea as we could, but we did and it was.
We were told you have to take a tour to get into the DMZ, so we arranged one from Seoul. It turns out that's only partially true. To go into the actual DMZ, you do have to take a military sanctioned tour, but you can get one right at the border.
Our tour took us to a few places outside the DMZ prior to the military tour. Including this suspension bridge.
While in the DMZ you visit a tunnel dug by North Korea in an attempt to invade, and an observatory where you can actually look into North Korea, and a small farming village that was allowed to be built there with the help of the South Korean government.
Most of the areas that we visited, we were not allowed to take pictures.

  • Seoul sit

    Dec 19–Jan 3, 2026 in South Korea ⋅ 🌙 43 °F

We spent two weeks in a nice apartment in Seoul with a cat that was a bit of a freak but super loving.
We had never been to South Korea, so this sit gave us the opportunity to make this journey.
On one of our adventures out around Seoul, we stopped and had a delicious ice cream coffee and Bailey's mix.
The sit was fun. I'm glad we did, but if we ever come back to Korea, it will be in summertime.

  • Seoul Xmas lights

    December 22, 2025 in South Korea ⋅ 🌙 36 °F

You don't see a lot of lights on houses around Seoul, but there sure are a lot of Christmas displays throughout the city.
We set out one evening to take the rounds of a few different displays we had heard about.
Starting with the Dongdeum Design Plaza. It's a huge structure without any right angles. They project an elaborate show on the outside of the building.
Next, it was a short stretch up to a river walk. Along which were stretches of different themes of lights and displays. In one such a projected into the water. Making a show to watch that included fish, swimming, flower scenes and whales jumping.
After that, we walked through a small European style Christmas market.
We stopped in a warming station where we could watch a show on a megatron screen across the street that included puppy dogs and polar bears.
We ended the evening watching another show being projected onto one of the historical gates of the city.
