Spirited away...

When we got to the main temple courtyard we found that there were lots of decorations and locals preparing a feast. Apparently we happened to go up there on the 650th celebration of the temple and monks from all over Chiang Mai had been invited to the celebration. Local Chiang Mai restaurants and cafés collaborated in making the feast possible. A feast which was based purely on donations which would then be offered to the monks. I felt like I had stepped into the beginning scenes of Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away anime film. What an absolute delight to taste and see so many local dishes, and for free!
We also were able to see some local music, dress styles and traditions.

The colourful offering trees are offerings tot he months which include little rice bags, and foodstuffs, sweets, to toothpaste, clothes detergent, etc. very random and creative.Okumaya devam et
