ПутешественникFountain Hills has the world's fourth-tallest fountain, and the tallest still operating in the United States. It was built in 1970 in Zürich by Robert P. McCulloch, the year before the reconstruction of the London Bridge in Lake Havasu City, another of McCulloch's projects. The fountain sprays water for about 15 minutes every hour on the hour between 9am and 9pm. The plume rises from a concrete water-lily sculpture in the center of a large man-made lake. The fountain, driven by three 600 horsepower (450 kW) turbine pumps, sprays water at a rate of 7,000 US gallons (26,000 L; 5,800 imp gal) per minute through an 18-inch (460 mm) nozzle. With all three pumps under ideal conditions, the fountain reaches 560 feet (170 m) in height, though in normal operation only two of the pumps are used, with a fountain height of around 300 feet (91 m). When built it was the world's tallest fountain, a record it held for over a decade. The Town of Fountain Hills has partnered with EarthCam to bring live streaming views of its world-famous fountain. The live stream camera can be accessed on the Experience Fountain Hills website. To help celebrate the fountain's 50th year, the town installed a new LED lighting system with four lights mounted directly under the fountain and six lights on the shore for a total of 10 lights to provide ample lighting and still meet the Dark Skies regulations.[15]

ПутешественникThat’s a natural weathering pit (also called a solution pocket or small rock pothole). It forms when: • Water collects in a slight depression in the rock • Sand and small pebbles swirl around in the pooled water • Over time, the abrasion plus chemical weathering slowly deepens and smooths the hole In sandstone areas (like around Cathedral Rock in Sedona), these are very common. When they’re larger, they’re sometimes called tinajas (natural rock basins). Smaller ones look just like this — smooth, oval, and often holding a little water after rain. It’s not a fossil or footprint — just erosion doing its thing over many years 😊

    Brown's Ranch Trailhead

    21 февраля, Соединенные Штаты ⋅ ☀️ 59 °F
    Larry Heuser

ПутешественникThe Brown’s Ranch Road segment is the main artery leading out of the Brown’s Ranch trailhead and connects with dozens of other trails in the newly developed northern region[1] of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. The trailhead opened June 10, 2013. The sandy, flat path has been used by desert dwellers including ancient Hohokam and more recently mid-century ranchers. In fact, the stretch of road from Dynamite Boulevard to the parking lot is the exact route for cattle drives that ran from the ranch into Scottsdale until the 1960s. The Brown family purchased the land in 1917 and it was a working ranch until 1970. At its peak, Brown’s Ranch encompassed 44,000 acres supporting 3,000 to 5,000 head of cattle.[2,4] The land was acquired in 1999 by the City of Scottsdale and the project to develop the trails and trailhead cost 3.8 million dollars funded by a 2004 Preserve Sales Tax. From the trailhead, after you read more details of the history of the area follow signs for Brown’s Ranch Road trail. The trail segment is 2 miles one way and is an easy, wide path ideal for trail running, biking, and horseback riding. Add elevation gain to this segment at 0.4 miles from trailhead going northwest up to Brown’s Mountain trail and summit (marker #BT1). Watch for the intersection with the Corral Trail at 1.4 miles (marker #CL1) for the turnoff to the right to see the ruins of the Brown’s Ranch including the footprint of the northern ranch house, corrals, stock tanks, blacksmith’s shed, bunkhouse, and other structures. If you are looking for larger loops, connect with trails leading to Cholla Mountain and Little Granite Mountain. There are plans underway to connect these northern McDowell region trails with the more mountainous southern region trails (Windgate, Bell, Quartz, Sunrise)[1]. The Maricopa Trail will eventually connect 420 miles of trails in 10 parks throughout Phoenix and Scottsdale including both southern and northern regions of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve.

    Hawk's Nest Trail

    21 февраля, Соединенные Штаты ⋅ ☀️ 68 °F
    Larry Heuser

ПутешественникThe Phoenix Sonoran Preserve's Hawks Nest Trail starts at the Desert Vista Trailhead, climbing steadily to a Cholla choked saddle that gains access to the Dixie Mountain Loop and the interior of the park. What would otherwise be an uneventful half-mile is made eventful by the Great Horned Owl nest located on the northwest side about 0.4 miles up. Like other saguaro nests, the nest was originally constructed by Crows, Ravens, or Red-tailed Hawks and taken over by a yearly nesting of the amazing Owls. The pairs mate in January, and the babies arrive a month later, usually leaving the nest by May. A great view of the nest is possible due to the trail passing close and nearly at the same level. The adults and Owlets can usually be seen during daylight hours during those months, with the adults hunting in the morning and evening. Like others in the park, the trail is relatively smooth, and you will typically see as many bikers as hikers on the weekends. Although a great destination for the very young and old due to its distance, its AEG makes it somewhat more challenging for those who are used to flat trails. There's no shade along the way, but the Paloverde, Creosote, Brittlebush, Saguaro, Barrel Cactus, Buckhorn and Teddy-bear Cholla make for a decent Sonoran stroll. A popular hike uses this trail and continues on the Dixie Mountain Loop to create a lasso, bagging the two peaks along the way via spur trails.

ПутешественникArizona is renowned for its unique culinary identity, particularly where Mexican and American flavors beautifully intersect, and nowhere is this more apparent than at **Dogos Guadalupe sonora HOT DOGS Y BURROS GUADALUPE SONORA DOGOS BURROS PERCHERONES ESTILO SONORA**. Known to locals simply as Dogos Guadalupe Sonora, this fast food restaurant has carved out a niche as one of the premier spots in the Phoenix Metro area for authentic cuisine inspired by the state of Sonora, Mexico, especially the capital, Hermosillo. The star of the show is, without a doubt, the famous Sonoran Hot Dog. This is not your average ballpark frank; it is a cultural icon. The Sonoran Dog features a hot dog generously wrapped in bacon, grilled to perfection, and nestled in a soft, bolillo-style bun. It is then piled high with a symphony of toppings that typically include pinto beans, fresh or grilled onions, chopped tomatoes, and often a drizzle of mayonnaise, mustard, and a creamy jalapeño salsa or avocado puree. This incredible flavor combination has earned the restaurant a dedicated following, with many customers traveling across the Valley just to get their fix. Beyond the Dogos (hot dogs), the menu is celebrated for its Burros (burritos) and Percherones. Percherones are massive, Sonoran-style grilled sandwiches or burritos known for their generous, hearty portions and flavorful meats, often wrapped in large, thin flour tortillas. Customers consistently praise the restaurant for its generous portions, noting that it is difficult to finish an entire meal in one sitting—a true testament to the value offered.

    27 февраля, Соединенные Штаты ⋅ ☀️ 57 °F
    Larry Heuser

ПутешественникMormon Lake is a shallow, intermittent lake located in northern Arizona in Pleasant Valley. With an average depth of only 10 ft the surface area of the lake is extremely volatile and fluctuates seasonally. When full, the lake has a surface area of about 12 square miles making it the largest natural lake in Arizona. In particularly dry times, the lake has been known to dry up, leaving behind a remnant marsh.
