    Remedios

    March 8, 2022 in Cuba ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

From the Jardines del Rey we drove about 3h to Remedios. We left the dreamy beaches and the lagoons behind us and followed the bad roads though Morón and other villages. It was nice to be back in „the real Cuba“ cause the totally touristic hotel lifestyle was definitely not ours!
In Remedios we went for a short walk along the houses and visited the beautiful church. It’s a clean city compared to the others we already saw and the houses are in much better conditions.
But with all the heat and sun today I got a very bad migraine and I slept the rest of the afternoon.

Our casa particular today is amazing! We felt very welcome and like at home in no time. The grandma cooked us a delicious diner and we even got ice cream!🍨
It much cooler to life with the real people. We can exchange stories and discuss about the differences in our countries😎

    flat tire

    March 9, 2022 in Cuba ⋅ ⛅ 35 °C

The car says it’s 37°C outside… Suddenly a man waves and screams at us we’re confused.. He makes gestures and points to our tire. We get out and see what’s the problem. Our tire is flat, must have happened minutes ago but the roads are so terrible we couldn’t even feel it..😤
In the burning sun the man helps us to lift the car and David puts the spare one on. But with the spare tire we’re not allowed to drive long distances. So the man tells us in Spanish and gestures we should follow him..
But i’ve red if you need to fix your tire you should definitely go to a professional and not just someone on the street……

Let me just say.. I was right! You really should go to a „Ponchera“. We got away with a blue eye I guess but it could have ended badly.

Well, someone should have listened and that someone probably lost his trust in humanity.😅
Girlfriends are always right.. remember that.

Luckily we had delicious diner with tasty avocados, giant portion of rice (could feed an entire soccer team I guess..) and she even made Flan with marshmallows😍

    Varadero

    March 9, 2022 in Cuba ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

What an amazing beach! White sand and turquoise cristal clear water🌊
I can see my feet and I could count every single grain of sand.🦶🏼
Some tiny fishes and tiny shells are down here too but while we were in the water someone stole my GoPro underwater/ action camera😠😤

Despite this unlucky incident we enjoyed Varadero. We had great AirBnB and the village is touristic but still cute with all the flower bushes and the big park🌺🌸🌼

    Reserva Ecologica Varahicacos

    March 10, 2022 in Cuba ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

We explored some caves with bats and counted many lizards🦎 On the „hike“ (which was shorter than expected) were many cacti, gigantic ones and even one that’s older than 300 years.
It was very hot even though it wasn’t even 9am🥵🔥Read more

    Havana original

    March 11, 2022 in Cuba ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

Today we brought our rental car back to the airport. We have no euros left and the bank changes money terribly that it’s not worth it. So we decided to walk all the way back to the AirBnB… nearly 4 hours along the street.
Was ist a cheap decision? Yes.
Was ist a good decision? Absolutely not!!

It was very hot and without any shadow. The cars encased us with exhaust gas and very loud motor sounds. A lost of waste everywhere. When we came into the city we noticed that this is definitely the Havana where the local people life, pretty sure no tourist have ever been here😅
It was very bad. Garbage everywhere, dead rats and cockroaches. Everything is broken and rocks just laying around in puddles of probably water. It smells very bad too. From urine to rotting food and probably the smell of something dead is everything included.
We can see the poverty and how terrible their system is. We saw many lines of people waiting to get their food with coupons and fruit stands.
At least the people seemed happy, they laughed and sang together.🌼
How ist it possible we life in the same century?

  • Day 15

    Havana

    March 12, 2022 in Cuba ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Today we went to the touristic spots like the Plaza Vieja in the old town. In this part of the city it was all clean and it’s getting taken care of. Probably to make a good impression. It’s s really nice with great buildings and parks but it’s sad to see how all the money goes into this part and the „Capitolo“ for impressing the tourists while the rest of the city is in such bad shape. We walked along the promenade Malecón and had a great view to the „Castillo De Los Tres Reyes Del Morro“ and the skyline of Havana.Read more

    home sweet home

    March 13, 2022 in Cuba ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Our journey has come to an end. We had a great time with amazing food and met very nice and lovingly people along our trip. The nature is an absolute dream. All the colors of flowers, cute lizards and butterflies. We saw many stunning beaches and the caribbean sea made us speechless every time.🌊☀️🌈🌸🦎🦋🏝

But I’m really looking forward to be back home! The trip made me very thankful that I live in a functional system with structure and rules!
Thankful for every store where I can buy anything, for good streets, working internet and hygiene.
I’m very exhausted from the chaos and how unorganized everything is. I’m glad we made this experience and we definitely learnt to really appreciate how good we have it.

But the best part about being back home is not the good bread, drinkable tap water or my own bed.. I‘ll be finally back together with my cats, I really miss my boys.🐈🐈‍⬛
