i‘m going to be a taxi driver

    February 26, 2022 in Cuba ⋅ 🌙 22 °C

    We’re finally in CUBA🇨🇺
After a long uncomfortable flight, a looong line for immigration and after we found our luggage on a different drop off from a different flight we could take a breath from the hot and hummid air of Cuba. We took a taxi to go to our AirBnB. All was well until the driver stopped and asked some pedestrians where this adress is….. Luckily for us I tried a navigation app out and I ended up telling the taxi driver the way??🚕
Should have gotten money from him, I guess.

    patience.

    February 27, 2022 in Cuba ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Today we’re getting our car for the holidays!
We walked to the airport and it was so hot we were dripping with sweat after only minutes🥵
But it was nice to walk along a lot flowers and palm trees, many cables and the colorful houses (very simple accommodations that all look like they need some fixing).

When we were at the car renting station (arrived at 8.30) it all started that no one seemed to care about us… Finally a man asked about our voucher and started looking in lists and the computer until he said we should wait and went into an office.. A different man angrily typed something in his computer and made some calls until he handed us a phone. They said „no car for us“ but then he made a phone call again and they came to the conclusion that we are at the wrong renting station.. So another man drove us around the airport to another terminal.
Here waits a man for us (no one told us about him but he his our angel for today) and he even speaks german. He explained us some things about the car, the road and how the cubans don’t care about time…
9.30: and the car is not here yet. It’s very hot and many people are waiting but nothings happening……
    10:30……
11:30: Our car is on the way it says.
12:30: the sun burns down on us and the shadow slowly goes away. The guide goes into the office and comes back with the information that the car’s at the gas station.
13:00: FINALLY our car is here!!!!! We inspected the car and went back into the office to fill all forms out. The office guy slowly writes the paperwork, made a phone call and tried the credit card out.. declined.. but luckily the other one worked.
13:30: after 5 hours just waiting we FINALLY drove away..🚗

but… after only 30 minutes on the road all warning lights turnt on and everything’s blinking?!? WTF?
We opened the motor and somethings making a weird noise. Great, we call our angel guide and I walked along the highway to find the kilometer sign. Can’t find one.. When I was back at the car the noises stopped, the lights were off and everything’s like nothing happened.

The rest of the drive goes well and slowly some clouds, that are darker than my humor, take over the blue sky and it starts raining. The air cools down like 8°C and the air smells sooo good🌧

    Valle Viñales

    February 27, 2022 in Cuba ⋅ 🌧 25 °C

When we finally arrived at our casa particulare we were done for today. At the pool we enjoyed the colorful clouds from the sunset with a yummy smoothie🍹
The noises here are incredible, many birds and crickets some pigs are grunting, laughter of people, from time to time a a dog barkes and somewhere is latino music🎶
That was a really tiring day with a lot impressions and mini adventures I never thought I would experience.😅

Here some examples and this was all just along the highway:
    -a vultures eating something dead
-streetseller with garlic, onions, cheese, sausages, baked chicken on a stick and a dead turkey and even knifes??
-a lot of cows, horses and goats just walking around, living their life
-random bush fires 🔥 and no one seems to care
    -carriages
    -many potholes

    cigares, coffe and nature

    February 28, 2022 in Cuba ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

After we ate breakfast with a great view over the Mogotes we started our tour through the Valle Viñales. We visited a farmer who told us everything about cigares, how they seed them, grow, harvest, dry the leaves and he showed us how the cigarres get rolled. It was very interesting even though I don’t care about this stuff or smoke. Well at the end we had to puff a cigar, but it was disgusting😂
A different farmer told us everything about the different coffees they grow and all the steps they have to do before you can actually drink it.☕️

The rest of the tour we walked along the orange fields, many palm trees and just pure cuba nature😍
The mountains are very impressive and different plant grow all over and out of them. We walked through a cave. It was pitch dark in it but the air was amazingly cold.
We saw many trees (mango, cashew, banana, cinammon and even some pineapple bushes).
Our guide was fantastic, he knew a lot about the plants and had a lot of fun facts👍🏼
It was very hot today only in the shadow it was a bit acceptable.🔥🥵

    Salinas de Brito

    March 1, 2022 in Cuba ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Today we drove from Valle Viñales to Playa Larga (4.5h) all along the nearly empty highway.
When we arrivdd we went to the National Park Ciénaga de Zapata, there we drove 21km in the „Sector Salinas de Brito“ along beautiful lagoons! We saw many different birds.
The cuban national bird „El Tocororo“ , pelicans, sea hawks, different ducks, herons, thousand flamingos and we were lucky enough to even see a little crocodile!! 🦩🦢🪶🦜🐊
It was amazingly quiet out here (exept the sounds of the nature of course..) and there was no wind so the water was perfect for some great shots with great reflections!

    Bahía de Cochinos

    March 1, 2022 in Cuba ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

We walked along the Playa Caletón right into the sunset behind the national park. The scenery was amazing and the colors were a dream! I’ve found a pineapple and thought she (yes „she“ it was a lady pineapple) deserves a photoshopping. She was a natural talent! 🍍📸
After the sun was down we went into the little village and went into a nice restaurant.
I ordered my cocktail virgin and the server was a little perplexed, maybe even confused cause we ate diner before the appetizer and the soup. 😂🍹

    underwaterworld

    March 2, 2022 in Cuba ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Just look at the colors of the sea!🌊
We’ve found a little bay for ourselves, we drove the car next the water and hid it from the street.
With snorkel, mask and fins we jumped into the water! The view was stunning and because the water‘s perfectly clear we could see a lot and wide into the underwater world.
We’ve spotted many different & colofrul fishes, thousands of sea urchins, anemones, spongy looking plants and one little jellyfish.
It was just amazing and we’ve snorkeled for over 1.5 hours.

    Trinidad

    March 2, 2022 in Cuba ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

From Bay of pigs we drove 2.55h to Trinidad. The scenery along the way changed slowly to „mountain“ and all the grass and bushes were dry and here ans there we saw smoke.. something’s burning again.
With the car we tried to enter Trinidad but it’s s a very confusing village with a lot of alleys and very bad and stoney and bumpy roads. When we finally parked our car and checked in at the AirBnB (one with a good water pressure in the shower) we walked through the village.
Beautiful and colorful houses the same yet so different . A lot of cables were dangeling between the houses and a lot of smells are in the air. It’s very hot again🥵🔥
For diner we went to a recommended restaurant! It was absolutely deliciously and I’ve got a giant portion of Ropa Vieja (pulled beef) and rice. David got a an even bigger paella🥘 The electricity only went out 3 times😂👍🏼

    El Cubano National Park

    March 3, 2022 in Cuba ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Early in the morning we started our little hike to „La grande Vegas“ waterfall. We walked along giant palm trees, bamboo, trees we never saw before and colorful bushes. Along the cristall clear river deeper into the national park.
When we reached the waterfall we immediately jumped into the refreshing water! We swam in the natural pool (9m deep!) and into the little cave with bats in it.🦇
It was just so amazing being in the cool water, only hearing the waterfall, a lot of birds and crickets! The whole atmosphere was so peaceful and we had it for our own!😍
When we were on our way back many other visitors came, luckily we were that early.
    „The early bird get‘s the waterfall I guess“🪱
