Drive to Orpen Gate

After the safari drive we packed up and then went to the shop/restaurant area where Shoes showed us some fruit bats in the trees nearby. We also saw 5 or 6 other birds in the area.

Then most of us went with Shoes in the safari vehicle while John, who wasn't feeling very well, went with Martin in his van. He and Martin heard a rumour of a cheetah sighting and were lucky enough to spot it in the long grass next to the road when it stood up to stretch. Martin missed the shot as he did not have his camera ready and the cheetah just stood up briefly, stretched then lay down. By the time the other vehicle got there, there was no sign of the cheetah. Probably still lying behind the long grass.

At Orpen Gate we said goodbye to Shoes and travelled a few hundred metres up the road to the Manyeleti Reserve Gate.Read more
