  • Made it at Last - Chamonix

    June 14, 2023 in France ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Last autumn we bailed out of Chamonix because the weather was so bad. Well we are here now. Perfect little site. Free bus outside the camp to take you into Chamonix and it’s cracking - the view, the town, the pubs, the restaurants. And we are now in French cheese country. What’s not to like. Cracking day and a hill climb tomorrow 😱👌. It is stunning here. Photos don’t do it justiceRead more

  • Mont Blanc - WOW.

    June 15, 2023 in France ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Cable Car day today. What a ride it was amazing. And once at the top it was breathtaking. There wasn’t a cloud anywhere near us when we arrived and the views all round were unbelievable. We watched climbers doing their stuff, walkers working there way up to the summit, had a gin & tonic, free I might add and watched a quintet belting out a few tunes after trekking up part of the mountain with their instruments . All at the top of a mountain. What a special day. The photos / vids certainly won’t do it justice.Read more

  • Lac d’Annecy. C’est merveilleux

    June 18, 2023 in France ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

About 5 klicks from Annecy at Rives Du Lac camp site. Great site, on the lake. Thoroughly enjoyed relaxing for three days. Got the taxi across the lake to Annecy as Sunday is market today. And what a market it is, winding amongst the streets of the medieval quarter. Annecy, The Lake, the area, is cracking and should be on every ones list to visit.Read more

  • Moulins

    June 19, 2023 in England ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

As the plan had changed, instead of heading North we went due West, we stopped on the outskirts of Moulins. We are hopping across France in a few step’s waiting for the weather to improve up the West Coast. The overnighter in Moulins was perfect if that’s all you are looking for - Camping Car park on the west side of the river. Which included a great little bar/restaurant which seemed to be brand new. Definitely recommend for a night stop..Read more

  • Fete De La Musique. - La Rochelle

    June 21, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

An annual festival of music and today is the day, and didn’t La Rochelle do it well. Bands of every description on every corner it was an amazing afternoon, which I’m sure went onto the late evening. The whole town was jumping., and what a great place to visit.Read more

  • Ile de Ré

    June 25, 2023 in France ⋅ 🌬 24 °C

Next stop was the beautiful Ile de Ré connected to mainland France at La Rochelle by a 3kms bridge.
With no bicycles allowed on the main roads on the island the cycle path network was amazing! So easy and we’ve never seen so many bicycles in our lives - not even in Amsterdam!
Quaint little French Harbour villages with white cottages all with lovely pastel coloured wooden shutters met us everywhere we went! Just gorgeous!
Only disappointing thing was that we just can’t find a decent cauldron of mussels - even on here! Nothing compares to those we found on the mussel farm last year - we’ll just have to go back!
Our 3rd day here at Eden Villages L’Ocean campsite has been spent lying by the pool on a sunbed in glorious sunshine - bliss!

  • A chill day

    June 27, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

A free Aire adjacent to a lake at Mesnard La Barotiere . Taking it easy on the route to Puy Du Fou. Great stopover.
Loving the Inverter 😉. Espresso coffee and buttered toast for breakfast courtesy of our newly purchased 9 euro toaster 👍Read more

  • Puy du Fou

    June 28, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Puy du Fou is a French historical theme park south east of Nantes which has its own Camping Car park which must hold about 500 MHs. We spent a day at the park and thoroughly enjoyed it. The shows were very well presented and great crowd pleasers and all told a story - Birds, Knights, Vikings, Romans, sunken galley, WW1 trenches and more. All were in French but some had English translations which we could get through our air pods, some of the time. Le Bal Des Oiseaux Fantomes - is a historical performance which included 200, mostly birds of prey, it was phenomenal. Returned to Leo knackered and in need of a good vodka ( we’d been buying cheap rubbish previously 😉). And onwards we go tomorrow getting closer to Calais 🥲Read more

  • Lest We Forget.

    June 29, 2023 in France ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

A very poignant few days visiting a museum in Falaise dedicated to the lives of the people in the town during the Nazi invasion and subsequent liberation. Turns out Falaise was also the birth place of William The Conqueror. Then onto Omaha beach and a visit to the Overlord Museum. The opening scenes of Saving Private Ryan probably goes a little way to showing what the forces endured on these beaches. Suzan had a couple of days relaxing 😉Read more

  • Honfleur - was it as good as suggested.

    July 2, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Parked up on an aire right in the port area of Honfleur, a massive site 5 minutes from the Center. And Honfleur didn’t disappoint. Another cracking, busy port town with plenty of side streets with a medieval touch. But our “eating out” failed again. Decidedly mediocre and cold. Can’t wait to get to the U.K. for a good curry 😉Read more

  • Le Crotoy

    July 3, 2023 in France ⋅ 🌬 19 °C

Aire De Camping car park. Nice little town by the sea with a big municipal car park 5 minutes walk into town. Plenty of cycle paths round about. We managed a 14 miler in strong winds. Worth a stopover if heading for / from Calais.Read more

  • Not quite the end 🥲

    July 5, 2023 in France ⋅ 🌙 14 °C

The last few stops have seemed like a wind down as we get closer to Calais and the long trek home up through the U.K. But today, the day before the crossing, seemed like the end. However here we are 30 mins from Calais at Ganspette Chateau Camping and just a few miles away deep in a forest is Blockhaus d’Eperlecques. A concrete structure built by the Nazis for their V1 and V2 program. The museum grounds with audio is fascinating, and it made for a great last day in mainland Europe - even Suzan enjoyed it. 😉. Defo worth a visit if in the area. Until the next time - signing out of this part of our trip. A few difficult days but in the main it’s been a blast. U.K. here we comeRead more

  • Zigzagging our way home

    July 10, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Not much to report really as our holiday feels over. From entering the U.K. it’s a matter of meeting up with family and a few friends as we wind our way up the U.K. Skegness the last four days and now on a CL outside Nottingham. Two more stops and then a long haul to Elgin. We are really looking forward to getting home. Not sure how long that will last 🥴.Read more

  • Leo is home

    July 13, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

From Skegness to Ludlow - great night , and then off to York for two nights , BUT. Covid strikes our friend in York so we decided on a 495 mile dash home from Ludlow . A long day but so good to get into a massive bed 🤩. Apart from a few stressful days in Germany the last 8 weeks have been a blast with lots of memorable stops. We’ve been to Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Italy and France, and Leo never missed a beat. He needs a rest 😉. Until the next time . Take care friends and happy travelsRead more
