  • York Castle museum and Clifford's Tower

    April 13, 2023 in England ⋅ 🌬 48 °F

The tower was part of York Castle, and the original walls can be seen behind the current museum. The Castle Museum features a mock-up of a Victorian era street, so that was neat. Also some notable viking and medieval exhibits, so a couple shots of their more important pieces are included.Read more

  • York City Walls and Shambles

    April 13, 2023 in England ⋅ 🌬 50 °F

Pics from walking the Medieval walls, and more from going through the Shambles (it's like Diagon Alley, only real, and one of the oldest and best preserved Medieval streets in Britain -- lots of fun shops that even I wouldn't mind shopping in if I had the space in my backpack). Also a few additional pics from the city itself during these walks.Read more

  • British Library

    April 14, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 52 °F

Small exhibition space with a lot to offer, ranging from original copies of the Magna Carta (the one without a description card is the Westminster Magna Carta), pages from Leonardo da Vinci's notebooks, a Gutenberg bible, letters from the Beatles, a First Folio of Shakespeare, original handwritten composition pages from Mozart, etc. Very neat. Got a few pics of some of the best stuff.Read more

  • Covent Garden

    April 15, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 50 °F

Wandering around before heading to the museum. Includes Cleopatra's Needle and Victoria Embankment Gardens. Also a neat store I passed by on the way. In the central plaza of Covent Garden was this random guy performing in British flag underpants. Had to get a pic of that.Read more

  • British Museum part 1

    April 15, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 52 °F

So many things, I hardly know where to start! Overload, but in the best way! This was one of my top bucket list items. Possible favorite exhibit was the Rosetta Stone. Even trying to pare it down to the highlights, have to break it up into more than one post. They have so many exhibits, they even have things up in all their stairwells.Read more

  • British Museum part 3

    April 15, 2023 in England

As much as I'm posting, it's less than half of my photos in this place. Just to give you an idea. This one includes a piece of the beard from the sphinx. And the tea I had to get to sustain me through the day.Read more

  • Soho

    April 15, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 59 °F

Lots of food in this area. Got me some official London fish and chips! Bonus: one of the famous London black cabs.

  • The Victoria and Albert Museum part 1

    April 16, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 55 °F

Another incredible museum I had to break up into two parts. This one was actually even better than I expected it to be. Only weird thing is the wonky-looking chandelier in the lobby :P The violin is a Stradivarius, by the way. The Cast Courts you see (with the giant Trajan's Column pillars) were incredible, all exact replicas of famous sculpture and works from around the world made in the 1800s for the purpose of studying art.Read more

  • Harrod's

    April 16, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 59 °F

They had scaffolding up, so you couldn't see most of the pretty outside of the building, but I got what I could, along with the area right around it, including Harvey Nichols. Also tea break at Harrod's!Read more

  • Hyde Park

    April 16, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 61 °F

This place is huge! And very pretty. The crowd is at Speaker's Corner. Included the Marble Arch, previously at Buckingham Palace and now at one entrance to the park.

  • Oxford Circus and Piccadilly

    April 16, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 61 °F

Rambled around the Oxford Street area and ended up at Piccadilly, so I went ahead and snagged some pics. Passed by Chinatown going through Soho on my way back, so included a pic of that as well.

  • Tower of London

    April 17, 2023 in England ⋅ ⛅ 59 °F

This was one of the neatest things I've seen. Lots of fascinating history and all that good stuff I like. Couldn't take pics of the Crown Jewels, but I did get to see them. And yes, had to get a picture with an old door in the Tower of London.Read more

  • St. Paul's Cathedral

    April 17, 2023 in England ⋅ ☀️ 63 °F

Beautiful interior (and very cool on the outside as well). The model is of the massive cathedral that stood on the site before the great fire of London.

  • "The City" walk part 1

    April 17, 2023 in England ⋅ ☀️ 63 °F

Might be the best city walk I've done so far. This is the old heart of London, with a lot of neat history both on the surface and buried beneath the modern veneer. The round church pictured is the Temple Church, famed for it's association with the Knights Templar.Read more

  • "The City" walk part 2

    April 17, 2023 in England ⋅ ☀️ 57 °F

The walk continued :) The building with the green roof is the Australian "embassy," the interior of which was used for Gringotts in the Harry Potter movies. The timber-framed building is one of the few to have survived the fire.Read more

  • Westminster walk

    April 18, 2023 in England ⋅ ⛅ 54 °F

Only actual guided walk I did in London, but very informative guide so it was well worth it. Prince William happened to drive right by, so that's who's in the car pictured. The white building with the flagpoles jutting out is the Banqueting Hall, the only part that remains of the original Palace of Whitehall.Read more

  • Westminster Abbey

    April 18, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 52 °F

This was cool, and not quite as crowded as I expected it to be, so that was a nice surprise. The big tombs pictured are Queen Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots. And yes, I had to get a picture with a door in Westminster Abbey :PRead more

  • Trafalgar Square and National Gallery

    April 18, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 52 °F

They were doing renovations on the front of the National Gallery, unfortunately, so I couldn't get a good shot of the neat outside of the building, but I did include some shots from the surrounding area near Trafalgar. Finally got to see a DaVinci painting in person. I was a little excited about it.Read more

  • Cambridge

    April 19, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 55 °F

I should've gone to college here, this place is neat and apparently the students of this university are very well set up during their time here. Their housing is even subsidized! The city itself is very picturesque.Read more
